A Flag Flies High

This is a repost of the first Memorial celebrated after my Father died in 2008:

A few weeks after my Father died an American flag folded tightly into the shape of tri-angle was handed to my mother in honor of my father at his grave-site. Later we were told that if we donated his flag to the American Legion, it would fly on Memorial Day with the other flags of those who served our country.

Before giving back the American Flag we were told to write (on the band that attaches the flag to the pole,) my father's name, where and how he served, and in what war.

Over 350 flags are flying today in my home town.

One of them says: George Amaro WWII… Navy.

  2. I’m so thankful for members of the military like your father who serve our country. This such a beautiful picture!
My uncle was stationed at Pearl Harbor on that horrible day. Like others he never talked about.

  3. What a site . . . and wonderful to think of your dad’s flag flying with the others.
    I hope you’ve had a chance to see his flag flying . . .

Corey, of all the photos you have posted over the years, this is my most favourite and never fails to being tears to my eyes whenever I see it.

God bless all our men and women past, present and future who serve and sacrifice for the precious gift of our freedom & peace. It’s something we tend to take for granted but it was always fought for.
My dad also served in the Navy, WWII Pacific.

  7. What a cool memorial of your father!
