Soccer Final How it is in France

In France the World Cup is a big deal. Every bar, and I daresay I am not exaggerating, had a TV, and some had more than one. In our little town four screens were set up. Food and drinks served. Tables popped up and a party began.

From the cheers and groans I don' think one team or the other was favored.

Sacha and his girlfriend were with us, plus two friends of ours. We talked more than watched the game. Well, that is until the babyfaced Mario Götze (22 years old) scored.

Two TV screens, one on each side of the road.

I loved how the bar across the street was called

"Sport's Bar"

We watched the game at the other bar caused it served Paella and Crepes.

Why not?

World Cup ends and the Tour de France fills in.

Yellow Jersey will ride by my Belle Mere's place in the Alps.

Motorcycle trip might be in order to watch it live.

Ten years ago tomorrow (Bastille Day) I was in Provence, in a little town, in a little bar watching a French man win that particular leg of the Tour de France. It was once of the coolest experiences I have had. Everyone watching a little TV, everyone cheering him on, the Pastis flowing like water – all at ten o’clock in the morning! I wish we had more of this kind of thing in the US.

  2. What stage goes by your Belle Mere’s apartment?

  3. The Tv has been running around the clock with watching the coverage of the World Cup! Hubby is so happy that Germany won!

What fun! I imagine Azoreans might’ve been doing something similar too (I’ve been there during earlier portions of a World Cup and a European Championship, and the cafés are mobbed with viewers then). Instead, Farmboy Husband and I watched in bed with the A/C going full blast, because it was a hot muggy afternoon here.
