Last Supper Before He Goes to Seattle

Last Supper Before He Goes to Seattle

Sacha left early this morning, four a.m. to be exact, to go to Seattle to do an internship with Kontent Partners. Though first he will spend one week in Willows with my family.

Last night we celebrated with a "last supper" a end to summer and a hello to Sacha's wonderful adventure.

Of course he hadn't packed.

Of course I wasn't prepared to say goodbye.

Of course there was a happy/sad feeling but soon was settled with the lush of a summer feast.

He wore my Dad's watch. I love that!

I made a goat cheese, emmental, tomato with spinach lasagna. Don't ask me for the recipe because it is something I winged up. Cookbooks are just for inspiration the rest comes from the pleasure of texture, taste and a glass of wine.

Happiness is inventing.

Also I made a roasted red beet salad with hazelnut dressing on "mache".

(What is mache in English?)

I could have been happy just with the roasted beets.

And moreso Sacha's smile all night long.

Love is an amazing feeling when it comes to one's children.

Does it know any bound?

Age doesn't matter.

I love being his mother.

Last minute affectionate words.

Last minutes full of foreveness.

Ready  -  set  - go  !

Seattle until October. Then one more year of study in Paris.

Last Supper French Meal

A meal for four that looked like a meal for ten.

Mother's cooking is like that.

Full ripe ready and too much.

I bought the straw wine serving basket at the brocante and baptised it at the last supper.

One Euro.

Take a cracker.

Add some camembert.

A few cracked walnuts.

And a piece of green onion tucked underneath.

Bake.

Serve hot.

Oh the taste of yum.

The last supper until Autumn.

Farewell lovely boy.

  1. Corey, that dinner looks amazing. The melon with limoncello, mmm.
I hope Sacha has a wonderful time in Seattle. He can take a ferry from there to Victoria, Canada, a really beautiful city. It is a scenic two-hour ride, that passes by many small islands.

  2. The meal looks delicious and something I would totally enjoy. I wish Sacha well on new adventures. Seattle will be a wonderful place for him, especially in a creative environment.

  3. Good lord he is handsome! Tell him to take a right at NYC and come visit me (just south of Boston.) He’s welcome any time-you all are:)

  4. Oh, these occasions are always with mixed emotions.
Could Sacha look more like Yann? Amazing!
Best of luck, Sacha, enjoy every single moment!

  5. That is quite the spread of lovely food! I think in the photo Yann is saying “Yes, my son, at the Pike Place Market they have salmon this big that they throw in the air”.
Do please ask Sacha to contact me when he comes to Seattle.

  6. Beautiful supper, beautiful family, best of luck to Sacha!

Goodness, Corey, your descriptions of food do make me drool!
Fortunately the accompanying photographs seem to assuage my appetite, which is a good thing because I’m disinterested in cooking these days. I’d rather just eat.
Not that I’m getting any gourmet food like you seem to live on, but … a girl can dream.
Me, I can live on toast.
I have heard that in Britain they don’t spread butter on toast while it’s hot, but instead wait till it cools, then butter it and add marmalade, and it’s supposed to be quite tasty.
What about France? Is toast a breakfast feature there like it is here in Canada?

What a yummy looking dinner, eaten outside in what looks like a beautiful garden!? Also, in answer to your salad question, in English ( England) they call mâché Lamb’s Lettuce. I am not sure growing up in California I had ever seen it…..? Best wishes for safe travels to Sacha.

  9. That looks so good and so beautiful

  10. What an exciting company! Good for Sacha! Oh, and the food looked wonderful.

  11. Best wishes to him!!!
He is going to Seattle, to do an internship.
One of my granddaughters, just flew to Japan, for her Junior year at University.
    The young are spreading wings.
    Which is wonderful…
    Gentle hugs,
    Tessa~

  12. “Take a cracker.”
But what is the red yummmm, to the right??????????

What a wonderful “last supper”! Sasha should love Seattle (as long as the weather cooperates.) I lived in Seattle for 12 years before moving back to CA and many of my dearest friends still live there. Should Sasha find himself in need, contact me! ; /

  15. How soon before T-I-C visits Seattle? (And I heartily second Diogenes’ recommendation of a side-trip to Victoria, BC.!).

  16. We recently had our own family ‘last supper’.
It was meant to be a farewell to our 23 yo son travelling to Europe, but 2 weeks before he left we were told my husband’s melanoma had reached the brain. Treatment was no longer optional.
We knew this would be the last meal we would share together as a family.
Less than 12 months earlier we had celebrated his 60th birthday and his brother had given him a gift of Penfolds ‘Grange Hermitage’. The best wine ever made in Australia.
That Sunday, we ate together and my husband opened the bottle of ‘Grange’. When he served it, he put aside the first glass he poured.
We had arranged for our pastor to come to the house and commune us as a family as we had done several times previously (my husbands health had not allowed him to go to worship for some time).
That afternoon, with our sons, and my husbands sister and BiL, we communed together as a family for the last time.
That first glass of ‘Grange’ was our communion wine.
That was in early July. Our son returned after only 3 weeks away and is now (along with his brothers) helping me care for his Dad. Not long now.

Grace to each and all of you, Karen C.

  18. Yes, Karen C.., our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  19. Corey, the first thing I noticed (besides how handsome Sacha is) was the watch he has on. I thought it was out of place . . . How wonderful he is wearing your dad’s watch.
Happy that he is traveling, seeing your mom & doing an intern here.
How our hearts as moms swell and contract at the same time – sometimes it’s overwhelming.
Counting my blessings of three incredible children.

  20. Teresa Young

My heart goes out to you as a Mom…we are happy for our children, but we never stop worrying. no matter how old they are.
Dave & I read this together, with smiles on our faces, at the same time we said….
    He has his father’s smile.
Beautiful meal. Beautiful story. Beautiful story.
    Hugs

  21. Shelley Noble

Goodness! Your way with food is as spectacular as your ways in life, Corey. You are in a way lucky that Sasha is at all willing to go out into the world when home tastes that good.

  22. Tongue in Cheek

Hi Kate, Oh in France it is mostly baguettes cut in long strips for breakfast. Yes to butter and jam!

  23. Tongue in Cheek

    That’s it Lamb’s lettuce. Thanks!

  24. Tongue in Cheek

Dear Karen, My prayers will hold you and your family during this time. And each night I will toast to you in communion. xoxoxoxoxoxoox

  25. Congratulations to Sacha. I love Seattle and yes he will have to take the ferry ride to Canada so beautiful the PNW. The meal looks so delicious. How proud you must be of your Son and all the family.
Blessings and much love to you all.
    Jeanne

  26. Thank you, Corey, Leslie & Debra. I have a bottle of champagne on ice. I plan to open it and drink a toast to my darling as soon as his earth journey finishes. I will be saying thank you to him for the champagne life he gave me and to bless him in his eternal life.
One of my heartaches is knowing we will never again share the pleasure of a glass of champagne together, which was something we always enjoyed.

  27. Inspiring, beautiful, handsome, tasty, loving no bounds post . . .

  28. I noticed the Chico State tee shirt on Sacha. Chico is where I have lived for the past 27 years, but originally from Napa, CA. It is fun to see something familiar in France :o)

  29. Julie Postle

Sacha will love Seattle and the beauty of the “Emerald State”. My son, a native Californian moved there about a year and a half ago and loves the vibe and the beauty. A great city to explore, as well as the area. He may enjoy Vancouver, BC, and the San Juan Islands too! Best of luck to Sacha…if he wants a contact there, let me know. 😀

  30. you, Carole, must be heartsick about the earthquake in Napa. Thank God it wasn’t worse.

  31. I, too, loved seeing Sacha in the Chico State t-shirt. Best wishes on his latest venture.

  32. you sound like such a brave woman. What lovely memories you will have to sustain you.

  33. Good luck to Sasha but I know he will do just fine, he got good genes….

  34. Shannon Marie

I wish I could run over to Seattle and meet him, lol!! Too bad it’s not AZ. Hope you enjoy watching your son blossom just like you did at that age! 🙂 🙂

  35. Wishing Sacha the best during his internship. A beautifully, delicious dinner to send him off. I will, most likely, be sending my daughter Claire off to teach English in France for 9 months next year. Have never been apart from her for that long. (I will probably have to visit her… a lot!) The melon with limoncello and lavender brought back beautiful memories of this past June! I’ve been serving it here at home — but cannot purchase your delicious Cavaillon melon here in Minnesota:(

  36. Once again our family paths seem to cross.. first when our youngest lived in Marseille, we came to visit you
and now Sacha is going to Seattle…and our eldest Daughter just got a job and relocated to Seattle. We just need to align these patterns so we see each other! xo

  37. What an opportunity to intern on the West Coast. Way to go Sacha! Good Luck and enjoy your time in Seattle.

  38. Brenda, Walker, LA

    So sweet!

  39. He’s going to love it there! Shucks, my son was there for 3 years and just moved to Boston.. the fresh fish is amazing, and lots of fun stuff to do. The mountains, ferry to san Juan’s, bc. Oh and Portland is a cool town, My other son live s there and loves it!
    Best of luck Sacha!

  40. Rebecca from the pacific northwest
