The Dinner to Be

The Dinner to Be

Setting the table I love doing that. Tonight we had two tables.

Colors of Provence.

I took a photo before the tables were done, since I usually forget to do it.

French Husband swept the patio. Not a loved task of mine. Happy he obliged!

The roses are gone, as is the lavender and jasmine.

That pumpkin is real to decorative to eat.

French Husband's tee shirt has coca cola bottles all over it.

Fancy.

I would write more but I am running late and need to finish up before our neighbor/friends arrive… it is my turn to host the dinner.

What is your favorite part of preparing a dinner party?

  3. knocking on the dinner host and hostess’s door!

  4. I love planning the menu & arranging the table & flowers. Wish I was there with you tonight.

  5. The planning. Who to invite, what to serve, music playlist, setting the table, deciding on a centerpiece…..creating a mood.

EVERYTHING! I love hosting dinner parties. Unfortunately my husband does not. He indulges me occasionally because he loves me. I would have people over every week if I could have my way!

  7. Drinking wine.
I love that “twig” chair in your kitchen next to the menu! And your table looks beautiful.

  8. Love it all but my favourite part is to pop around the corner at some stage when all is in full flow and listen to the chatter, clink of glasses, friendship and fun. And remember how incredibly lucky I am to have such gorgeous folk at my table.

  9. I wish I was there. What is that on the wall, it looks beautiful.
Planning the menu, I hope u share tomorrow.

Choosing the foods, and setting the table with a theme , or my latest find! I love hearing the “mmmm” and the Oh myGosh” and the “Yummmmmm” just as much though!

Every part but the clean up. Especially love sitting around table visiting long after meal is complete.

the planning…scouring recipes to find just the right balance of flavors..decorating the table….and putting wonderful food on it for frienids and family.

  13. This year I started a “Menu & Guests” Journal in a beautiful silk bound book that Courtney, my daughter, gave me for Christmas. We now tend to have the same groups of friends over for dinner and I was beginning to forget what I had prepared for each of them on previous occasions — Now I have logged the date or occassion , our guests, my decor or theme, the menu, the wine and the resources for any special condiments or secret ingredients I used.

I agree with what Franca and Stephanie said!

I love hosting a gathering because it really makes me get busy and get the house cleaned, organize the meal and the best part is enjoying fellowship of friends.

  16. I love setting/decorating the table. I spend more time thinking about that than meal! I need a cook.

Definitely the decorating part. And luckily for me American Husband always cooks! Usually we have salmon grilled or baked in oven with maple syrup/ginger marinade, then fancy rice and a side veg. Simple and lovely. Meanwhile I have set the table out on the deck if nice enough or inside on our lovely big round table. I get to do my favorite part always. (Then I also remove dishes and clean them, but fair’s fair: I haven’t had to cook.)

  18. I have never been a fan of having guests for dinner. It makes me nervous and seems like a lot of stress and a lot of work. I do enjoy the chatting at the table after the meal, over dessert. So I will agree with Franca and Stephanie too!

  19. I don’t host or attend dinner parties any more, but when I did it was that moment when the world faded away and I was lost in the sounds and smells and the magic.

  20. Laughed out loud at this! So true!

  21. I love the menu planning, setting the table and choosing the flowers. I also like offering the drinks when guests arrive. I also really enjoy cooking the meal for friends and family. I try to be organized so I can enjoy the party too. I love having friends over for dinner.

I also love setting the table and picking the china and crystal for the occasion. Second, choosing the champaign to greet people with and third, the wine selection. Best of all sharing a nice meal and conversation with guests and finishing with a lovely desert.
Your patio dinner setting looks amazing.
