Rodin's museum alone, without any of his amazing work is a beauty in itself.

The reflection of the kiss in the round room's mirrors took my breath away.

The source of light and shadow inside the museum, was fascinating, especially given the passion that existed between Rodin and Camille. The fury of creation that comes when one has a muse, a lover, who also shares the same creative energy…

The freedom and the chain.

The softness of the petal, the sting of the thorn.

The soft play of natural light gave these two sculptures a haunting feel.

The reflection in the mirror.

What we see, or care to see.

Different angles, perception… view point.

What we bring forth from stone, what we bring forth from our own hands, hearts and eventually our lives.

The source of his inspiration, the human body. Unlocking the soul from the stone.

So there I was with my sell phone taking photos.

At times like this I wish I had hauled my camera, but as I am trying to go a year with just my cell phone to take photos, I found myself observing and trying to figure out how to capture what I see with the less bulk though with less possiblities with only my cell phone.

How I wished I could be inside that museum, or Monet's garden, or anywhere lately that I have been in or nearby Paris without anyone around so that I wouldn't have to pray for patience as I waited and waited to have a shot without anyone around.

And for the brief moment that I was nearly alone in the room that held "The Kiss", time seem to stand still as I felt the eternity of that moment.

  1. What a beautiful moment it was too. You definitely captured the light. I had to smile at waiting for no one to be around, as I find myself doing that also. Sometimes tricky, especially in a special place such as this.

  2. Just incredible . . . fascinating post. You have a great eye! Once again, I wish I was right there with you. I, too, have been practicing taking better shots with my phone.
    P.S. I got a job!!!

  3. Beautiful, Corey! Thank you for your patience in getting these beautiful pictures to share with us…much appreciated!

  4. Corey, I was there a long time ago. I agree, a beautiful place. Apart from the sculpture, that chandelier is awesome looking.

  5. PS – your cell phone pictures look wonderful and do this place justice.

  6. Love now when you post Paris photos of somewhere I have been. We, too, loved the Rodin museum and especially The Kiss. Your cell phone did you proud my friend!

  8. Corey your photos here were breath taking I would say mission accomplished via cell phone camera WELL DONE-we also have a Rodin museum here in Philadelphia-and as you may know I am drawn to love stories-not traditional love stories but the likes of Camille and Rodin-madness an all consuming passion-the human spirit uncorked and raw-and you are right the eternalness of THE KISS breath taking-

In May I went to the Rodin specifically to photograph the staircase for my furniture product catalog. I got some fabulous shots of the whole building and gardens with sculptures. I wasn’t sure what to expect the first time, but would definitely go again.

Corey the pictures you took at the Rodin museum were breath taking. I love the elegance of the subject, your keen eye to capture every possible angle to fully enhance the sculptures. I cannot stop looking at them. This is my style! Have you ever thought of selling prints? Thank you for this post. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE…

  13. Rebecca from the pacific northwest where your son is!!!

You did a pretty darned good job of snatching views with nobody in them!
I like best the hefty raw garden sculpture with seated men facing one direction/the other direction that’s 3rd from top. Also “Eve” just below that.
You must have had a marvelous, if frustrating (dang other people!) time.

  14. Beautiful shots of the sculptures and the gorgeous staircase. I saw the movie, “Camille Claudel” years ago and loved it..just so sad ‘tho.

Dearest Corey, I write you, again, when your passions speak to mine. Your photographic essay observing the Rodin Museum “”Hole and Lump”, take me back there, and warms my heart and soul. The feeling of being in the room with the sculptures and the reflections in the mirrors, shadows and staircase take me back to being there. And your choice of enhancement of colors and garden bring it alive. Can you make a book of this particular journey? Or, please, always make it available to viewers, as I visit it nearly every day. I do not recall when there seeing any catalogue that could capture the feels such as your own. Thank you again for your wonderful love of beauty in life. Sincerely, Jacque
