The Destruction of Art

"Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let There Be Peace on Earth
The peace that was meant to be

With God as our Father
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.

With ev'ry step I take
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live
Each moment in peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me"

Jill Jackson Miller and Sy Miller

I am speechless.

  1. Sacriligeous

  2. It makes me physically ill to see such disrespect/destruction.

  3. There are no words only heartbeats.

  4. No words, just sadness and horror

  5. I cannot even watch the images, its too horrifying. I’ve never seen anything like this or ever will, its as bad as killing a person. It is the killing of one’s soul, their souls. These are soul less people.

  6. We are seeing evil unleashed.

  7. I will never understand-I cannot understand-senseless destruction senseless killing …..

  8. This last year has been particularly difficult for me personally; and because of that my soul, my body and mind, just can not take anymore. I’m so done, so exhausted. It physically makes me ill to watch and read about the things some people do. I can’t take it anymore.
7 Billion people in the world. What. What are there really, like, a few thousand literally crazy people who sew destruction and hatred in their shadows, and yet they *are* capable of tearing up families, souls, hearts, and wickedly walk daily without remorse. A few thousand against 7 some Billion people who in all reality really don’t care about flags or borders or hatred. We just want some peace and charity, some equality, some hope, fresh food and clean water, and a love of understanding that you like up, I like sideways, those people over there- they like purple. Who cares if they like purple? It’s o.k.
7 Billion of us just want to get along, squishing our kids, hugging our parents, to kiss our love. That’s all we want.

  9. My tears mix with yours..

  10. Sick and disgusting, sad.

  11. Yes, speechless!
“Let there be peace on earth”
I am praying for peace in the middle east
and in each and every heart.

on and on it goes. Where are we headed? Fear, one of the biggest tool they use. So sad to loose so much art. I just don’t understand.

  13. I too, am speechless.

  14. Artifacts which survived mankind for over 9000 years are destroyed by barbarians of our age.
That previous generations, even that of Mohammed himself, did not see a need to destroy them in the name of religion means there is no adequate rationale now.
This is a movement of such anger and hatred…

  15. I can’t even express the feelings I have after reading this.
    Unbelievable!!!!😥

I am reminded of the Nazis. Innocent people are being herded together for mass executions because of their spiritual beliefs, and beautiful artifacts are destroyed for their representation of a spiritual practice different of Islam. Heartbreaking. The lyrics on the post are very familiar to me. I sing them with my congregation every week at the close of our non-denominational worship service. The words are comforting and necessary for spiritual renewal in this time of chaos. I appreciate your insightful selection. When witnessing such hatred we need to be reminded of compassion, including compassion for the practioners of Islam. For ISIS is not representative of Islam.

These barbarians need to be taken down! What is the world waiting for? (I love this song by Vince Gill. He sings it in a duet with his daughter on his Christmas album.)

  18. “I am grief” The cycle is not yet broken.

  19. I have no words for this!

  20. Can’t bring myself to watch anything these insane, hateful individuals are doing to humanity and culture…exactly like the evil nazis.

I too am on the very edge.
I’m afraid God has left the building !
This all has nothing to do with God
    or religion.
Hold on tight when your at the edge.
Think of me holding on too.
We must not let them have us.

  22. A few, like you said, can cause such pain, such evil, such sorrow. It is hard to understand. So true that a handful out of the many can cause such horror.
    Thinking of you xxx
