What Kitchen Thing do you Collect?

French Kitchen

Added a rug.

I guess when the walls, cupboards, drawers, tabletops… cannot hold anymore the floor becomes the newest center piece.

When we renovated our kitchen I had the carpenter cut a long narrow horizontal line along the counter top so I could show the handles to my kitchen knives collection. One regret is I wish I had the carpenter cut it the full length of the counter instead of ten inches.

Mixing practical and beautiful is important to me.

Old things are practical:

A knives sharpener,

An herb sack with the number 25, I like to think it had to do with Christmas and candy, probably not the case, more likely for herbs,

An espresso 1800 cup from my friend Melanie…who moved and it is my way of remembering her everyday.

Silver ornate knives. I kind of have a thing for them. Weird isn't it.

What do you like to collect?

Oh so many collections. Too many to mention. Love your Knives. It always amazes me how beautiful very practical items used to be made. Not so much anymore. Shame. I too collect silver/silver plate flatware. Have way too much for just two people. Still I love them and display/use some of it in ironstone pitchers on our kitchen table. I use everything everyday. Not saved for special occasions. Why not make everyday special?

  5. Salt shakers, vintage of course. Tons of white dishes, cups, bowls, mostly from Sur la Table.
    J’adore your ornate knives, j’adore.

  6. Cake stands.
Love your kitchen and collection Corey.
    Adore old things.

  7. Teapots, pitchers, old transferware, ironstone or other china. I like to use it and don’t mind hand washing. I have a huge antique mahogany cabinet (maybe from a butler’s pantry) with sliding glass doors in my kitchen where I like to store it all.

  8. French white napkins from a girl from Willows who lives in France.

For the kitchen, I collect pitchers and milk bottles. I have to limit my collecting, however, or it would get away from me.

Vintage and antique sterling silver candlesticks, the more the merrier on the old kitchen table intermingled with some freshly cut flowers from the garden.

Anything blue, which is why I was so interested in the blue stoneware from an earlier post this week!
Also, some old silverware and antique wooden kitchen utensils.
    Your kitchen is wonderful.

Dust bunnies, evidently. They keep popping up everywhere. Love the carpet! We put one very much like yours in our kitchen a while ago. I thought it would get filthy, but either it is great at hiding stuff, or miracles DO happen, because so far so good.

  17. Corey,
Your kitchen is beautiful! I collect ironstone and also love old bread boards and worn kitchen utensils.
    Have a great weekend!

Teapots and teacups! I must stop because there is no more room, but yet I bought another teacup just yesterday. Love your knives and what a good idea to build a slit in the counter top.

  20. Anything made in France!

Old, pretty floral China…love random pieces so nothing matches. That’s just one of the collections..I have a thing for pretty vases, and tableclothes, too.

  22. I have been looking for a rug for the kitchen, but still have yet to find the right one.
How I love your knife collection!!
All I have is a French engraved silver champagne bucket for my cooking tools — Pierre stops me from collecting. Summer camps and music lessons and shoes and clothes for growing children… One day though, one day.
