The First Time You Dance

The First Time You Dance

The first time you dance nerves sing against the melody trying to tell you not to do it, wallflowers grow because of this. But if you can catch the tune and let it slide down to your toes, a movement fills your veins, and your heart starts to beat to an inner spirit drum.

The First Time You Dance

Our friend Ching's first dance.

French Husband would not take no for an answer, he put on the old record player, the kind from the turn of the century, he wound it up, then grabbed Ching, "Let's dance."

The First Time You Dance

Laughter releases nerves.

The First Time You Dance

And they danced and danced.

Between winding up the record player,

and laughing,

Ching skipped the light fantastic!

    What a sweet husband!!

  9. Of course I do! It was to Why Do You Build Me Up by the Foundations. I must have been around 10 years old. I have never stopped since and am fortunate enough to have a husband who loves dancing as much as I do. When I step onto the dance floor and feel the smooth wood under my feet I breath an oxygen only dancing can give me. Dancing is pure, unadulterated joy!

  10. with my father… sweet memories, standing on the tops of his shoes

Neither of my husbands were very good at dancing, which is probably why they didn’t like to dance. But at times during which I was single, my girlfriends and I used to go to a few clubs where there was a dance floor. I loved the disco years and went quite a few rounds with some guys who really loved to dance. It was soooo much fun. Although it will probably never happen, should I ever marry again, it will have to be to a man who loves to dance.

How fun! I love your friend’s laugh on her face.
Also like FH’s RED glasses. and that although we all know his name by now, you still refer to him as French Husband.
    What fun.

I love this… at 60 I still do not know how to actually dance, but want to learn. After watching video of my 9 year old great nephew dancing (like your in your pictures)with his 6 yr old sister, I asked them to teach me to dance when they visit this summer. I can’t wait!

“Ferry across the Mersey”. My two older cousins took it in turns to dance me around the kitchen. I felt so grown up.
Two months after my husband died, our goddaughter was married and it broke my heart that I did not have someone to dance with at her wedding. I had to leave shortly after the dancing started because I felt so sad, thinking no-one would ever dance with me again.
    And I do love dancing.

Lovely way to put a visitor at ease.

  16. I don’t remember the first time I danced but I do remember years of watching your moves on the dance floor at weddings and parties!

  17. Oh that lucky Ching, dancing with your handsome man would make me weak in the knees….just sayin’

“wallflowers grow because of this”…I know this all too well. By the time I am sixty, I hope to have overcome it. Having a musician for a husband, who is always on the stage creating the rhythm and melody hasn’t helped me grow into whatever the opposite of a wallflower would be. : )
