First Things First

One-direction-press-photo

When I arrive home the first thing I do is kiss my mom, and admire the home she has always carefully created.

Then I eat a cookie because my mom always has homemade cookies in the house.

And usually I eat a burrito too.

But this time, there is a new first, a new thing I have to tend to other than the above mentioned…

The reason I came home in July is that my brother Zane bought tickets for all of the girl cousins to go see "One Direction".

My list to do:

Buy earplugs.

And as my nieces have been doing for weeks now, sending me "snaps" of possible outfits that they are going to wear to their favorite boy band ever… I gotta decide what to wear!

I am thirteen you know.

AND the concert is tomorrow!!! Can you hear me screaming.

  1. The outfit should be easy to find in your brothers’ closets! 😉
I went with my 13year old girls to a boy band concert, in the company of a dear friend with her also teenage girls. We had no earplugs and, sitting in the 6th row in the DAR Constitution (!) hall, we older girls tried to save our ears with tissues.

  2. My friend and I took our daughters to see One Direction about 2 years ago. It was a birthday present for Sophia’s 17th birthday. The concert was the evening of June 26th and her 16th birthday was on June 27th. After the concert there was traffic jam and we sat in the parking lot for an hour. The time ticked by from 11:30 pm to 12, at the stroke of midnight, it was Sophia’s birthday so we belted out an off-key rendition of Happy Birthday to you. The entire parking lot full of people started singing as well! The whole parking lot, full of hundreds of people singing happy birthday to her. It was awesome:) Do bring some earplugs, you’re gonna need them.

  5. delighted by your blog! You bring a depth to my world every morning…helps me to be thankful. Im in santa cruz and because you are home for a visit, wondering, are there any antique stores, or any stores that are “must go to” locally for you? Any local treasure troves that you go to when visiting home?

At first I thought “wow, Corey’s nephews in California look so familiar…”
Then I realized it is One Direction.
Pretend you are going to see The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, lol.

You are so nice, and so is your brother! In 1997 I took my 15 year old daughter and two friends to a wonderful concert – Tina Turner was at George at the Gorge (The Gorge Amphitheatre is a spectacular outdoor concert venue near the Columbia River in George, Washington.) We left Montana at the end of the Class B state track meet (Erin ran the 1500 and 3200 meters), drove well into the night to arrive at a friend’s, then continued the next day to our destination. At a breakfast stop, a young man at the next table said to my daughter, “Is your tongue pierced?!” I rolled my eyes at such a ludicrous statement … silly me. Today’s journal brought back all kinds of memories. Enjoy a wonderful concert with your delightful nieces.

My husband still has fond memories of taking a whole gaggle of young teen girls, our oldest daughter and her friends, to see New Kids on the Block, decades ago.

How fun is that! Take pictures, scream, and wear ear plugs.

A few years ago, I was going to see the Rolling Stones for the first time and I asked my adult daughter what one should wear to a Rolling Stones concert. Her reply, “Whatever it is, you don’t look good in it any more.” Hahaha! But I am sure you will look great, as usual, in whatever you choose. Have a blast!
