Weaving with a Golden Thread

Weaving with a Golden Thread

Gold and silver threads, the real sparkly deal, on wooden bobbins.

Most likely from the 1800s.

Found at the brocante.

I sew but don't, and never could I sew as beautifully as I have seen on altar clothes and capes… the work of steadfast creative hands. Delicate, nimble and quick, mostly meditative.

Though holding these in hand I can weave a path back to a day where such art was made cherished and lived, and I am there.

Amongst people who brought beauty to the everyday. Who created art as a form of prayer, passing the time in being creative, resourceful, making something worthy of all time.

Golden and silver threads we hold.

What are you creating today?

Finishing (or at least putting a huge dent in) WIPs…
an all white dress (with bead and pearl embroidery) to wear to temple.
    illustrations for a children’s book.
**I would LOVE seeing the alter clothes and or embroidered robes, etc. Mercy! Some of the work these artisans create takes one’s breath away.

  4. Today is a quiet day for me. I am spending it in near meditative work on a collage I will use to cover journals. I always admire your creativity, Corey. You might not sew, but you delight us with your words and photographs. Thank you.

  5. I’m not sewing today and haven’t in quite a while, however I’m working on some stamped travertine tiles to use as coasters for the fall months.

  6. Today I’m creating a PowerPoint slide program to accompany a presentation I’m giving at a conference this fall — wherever I can using our own photos of the Azores, and from the Internet when not possible. So much fun, it hardly feels like work at all!
