Chelsea’s Home Coming

Chelsea home

When I married French Husband, left California and moved to France, I made a promise to myself that I would "go home" at least once a year for a month. As the years rolled on I had babies, and those babies went on the plane with me. As they got older I would take them out of school for six weeks and head home for a holiday. My children grew up bilingual, they knew their American grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, extended family, they knew burritos, Lucky Charms, Wizard of Oz, Calamity Jane, Halloween, Easter Bunnies and my Mom's cookies every single one of them.

We weren't rich, we just made it happen.

Grateful I am that we did.

….

Chelsea now 25 has a job, lives in Paris. Imagine my joy when she told me she was taking three week vacation and going to visit my mom, her Aunts, Uncles, cousins…

That is what I hoped for… that if I had children they would know and love my family so much that they would want to return as often as they could to visit them too.

Chelsea surprised her Godchild Kate on her tenth birthday. Plus Chelsea will be home for my mother's 80th.

What happy news and how wise you and French Husband were. I too raised my children to be fully bilingual. It has given them such an advantage in their careers. Now, it’s the grandchildren who are learning two languages. And it is those two grandsons who bring me joy every day! This weekend I celebrated my 66th birthday and can attest that in spite of the bad knees, I am living the best days of my life!

  6. Happy 80th Dolores!!

I’m happy to be back home in France, today, after visiting my family in CA and WA

  9. Happy 80th to your mom! My husband and I both have family that do not live nearby and due to our limited vacations from work we only get to see various family once a year. Next week we will be visiting my in laws in Oklahoma. We’re looking forward to the visit! My mother in law is 79 and my father in law will be 81 next month. We’re so thankful they are still around.

  12. Most recent joys? Another reconnection with my Portuguese roots. Followed by returning home 🙂

  13. I am HAPPY after the Sheepfarmer’s oncology consultation yesterday which was quite hopeful after a HORRENDOUS 6 months of chemo. 3 month recalls, but it is slow growing and is regarded as treatable, like diabetes. We will manage, TOGETHER. The sheep are back down in the barn and fields around the home AND in 2 weeks I get to spend 17 days in California and Oregon surrounded by my PRECIOUS children and BEAUTIFUL grandchildren for THANKSGIVING before coming back to the lambing sheds and my dear, sweet husband 🙂
