Friends in Every Corner

Fourteen years ago through the internet, but not through blogging I connected with Frank and Barb. They sent me an email asking where they could find authentic French lace curtains.

The first time I ever went on the internet I typed in the browser "French Antiques", nothing came up. With determination to discover what I believed the internet to be I typed in the word brocante… yet again nothing happened. My list of words brought a blank space. The internet seemed flat, I was disappointed… but not for long. Certainly you remember the emptiness that the hype about the internet gave back then… 1996.

Though after writing thirty or so words I came upon a "Flea Market Board" by Country Home where one could write a message that would be "seen" by anyone who was doing the same search that I was doing, which was: Wanting to connect with like minded people who were crazy, I mean passionate about French Antiques. That is how I created my job as sourcing antiques for others, which lead to creative tours, lace curtains, friends, blogging… and friends in every corner.

Next month will mark ten years that I have blogged and the pleasure of meeting so many of you has been incredible, and the awesome birthday wished to my mother, on this blog and on my Facebook page.

Of course Frank, Barb and I went to Cassis had lunch and talked about everything under, and above the sun.

The day left us knowing that the internet is an avenue of unlimited adventure. Back when the internet wasn't in every home I remember thinking it would be a spiritual connection… the internet hasn't disappointed that thought either.

Birds of a feather flock together?

Thank you for Barb and Frank, and every one of you for your friendship and for reading this blog.

    Corey,
You always have such a wonderful outlook on friends, family and things you love. I have only been reading your blog for a short time, but in that time you have given me a greater appreciation for many things in my life. What a joy and inspiration you are to me!
    Thank you
    Sharon

  2. It is a joy to come here each day. Thank you for offering your friendship to all of us, and thank you for having the best commenters online (so many beautiful souls here).

I’m always a little jealous of your blog reader-friends who get to visit with you in person. Even though I got my turn a couple of summers ago. We all feel like you’re our best friend (and truly, you’ll a thousand times more fun in person, even, than here in writing!) and you’re so generous with all of us who want to contact you.
So I’ll be a little jealous but mostly glad for each new or old friend that gets to hang out with you all for a bit.

  4. It has been and continues to be my pleasure.Thank You.

  5. I agree Rebecca…as wonderful as the blog is, the real Corey is the best!

  6. The first time I met someone IRL whom I’d contacted initially via the Internet was in 2002 — a young man with his own website, back when that was still fairly uncommon — and I’d been greatly apprehensive beforehand about the entire process. He and I knew that we must surely be related, but only later determined through genealogical research that we’re precisely fifth cousins once removed! Over the years we’ve continued to stay in touch, and I’ve met quite a few more members of his (and my!) family.
Since then I’ve met several other virtual contacts in person as well, always with happy results. While I have no illusions but that there are some “bad actors” out there, I try to take reasonable precautions, and as a result have made some marvelous and diverse friends I’d never have had the opportunity to encounter pre-Internet — including, of course, our Corey, Yann and Chelsea (sorry we missed you, Sacha).
Because I’ve lived most of life pre-Internet, I still find myself amazed at all this.

  7. Happy 10 years! The internet has certainly opened our world and I love it.

  8. Love you and what you do!

  9. Love your blog! but…did they get the French lace curtains? 🙂

  10. Hi Corey, Even though I don’t comment often nowadays, I’m still reading your blog everyday – it comes to my email and I read it first thing most mornings. I’m so in awe at how you’ve kept up the flow of beautiful images and thoughts all these years. WHenI first strted blogging back in 2006 you were one of the first blogs I found, though I can’t now remember what I typed in to find you – it wasn’t brocante or antiques, though I love them too, maybe it was something about bringing up kids in another country, as I was connecting with quite a few expat moms in those days, many of whom I still count as friends, even if they are no longer blogging and the kids are grown! It’s a wonderful way of connecting across the world. Lots of love to you and yours xxxx

  11. Thank you Sharon, I try. Though it is the comments that make the community and after all these years I feel I know as friends so many of the commenters and have had the honor of meeting so many of them. xxx Hopefully we will meet too!

  12. My prayers hold you every morning Star!

  15. Amazed indeed! Thank you Kathie.

  16. Thank you Kit! It is a wonderful to stay connected. I cannot imagine stopping because I would so miss all the virtual relationships!

  17. What would morning be like wo Corey and coffee!

  18. And a heartfelt Thank You to you, dear Corey.

  20. Wow! 10 years dedication to a blog. You are Amazing! Thank you for opening up the world of France to me. I never had a thought about seeing France until I met you. You opened my eyes to a new world….and on the other note, Dave would never came to France if it hadn’t been for the fact he did not want me traveling abroad alone. We are both so grateful to you and Yann for your friendship and adventures.

  21. I love all of you who blog and to those I keep discovering. Thank-you Corey…you are my morning coffee read and I am never disappointed. I am not a brocante searcher but I would certainly love to come on a Muse trip one day just for the ride and the comradery that seems to take place and the absolute joy that comes across in all the descriptions. I am grateful for having “found” you!
