Recap of Downton Abbey without an Accent

Corey amaro, french muse, brocante,

Feeling better but not really.

Slept until 2 so that says things are not normal.

Decided to re-watch Downton Abbey, it is a wonder that I am not speaking with an accent.

Binge watching I gather is the term.

What TV show would or have you binge watched?

I streamed Downton Abbey on my computer.

Tomorrow I am counting on feeling better… French Husband says he thinks he is catching my cold. Poor darling I will try not to be the nurse that he wasn't, oh revenge is hard to resist.

  1. I binge watched Hart of Dixie, first 3 seasons. It’s hard not to say y’all and love all things southern.

  2. Oh dear. I hope you recover soon. Those colds — bah. I had that fever, achy, snotty nose, coughing cold last year and no doubt I will get it again this year.
    Take care…

  3. Laurie SF

American Horror Story. It is terrifyingly good. Jessica Lange’s acting will leave you yearning for just one more.

  4. There are several that are fun to watch: Sherlock (starring Benedict Cumberbatch) and the Great British Baking Show (which is just lovely). Also if you can watch any episodes of “The Good Wife.” And one more that is just fun: Modern Family. This season isn’t that great but past years give a nice quick laugh.

  5. If you haven’t seen it, the BBC series Poldark is wonderful, can’t wait for the next season:

  6. The Great British Baking Show is wonderful. We love it too!

  7. Laurie, I agree American Horror Story is wonderful. And Jessica Lange was terrific.

  8. Almost all the BBC series mentioned-A Place to Call Home, Miss Fisher’s murder mysteries, Luther, Last Tango in Halifax Call the Midwife-and this is to name a few!-Hope you are feeling better tomorrow-sweet dreams!

  9. Have binge-watched “Monk” and “Flashpoint” on TV.
But I don’t like binge-watching, because the episodes all start to blur together — sort of like cramming for an exam by trying to do all the assigned reading the night before — which is NOT any way to remember. In fact, when I was taking first-year Portuguese (a 5-unit course each semester!), I’d split up my daily studying sessions into two halves, so I could reinforce the afternoon or evening session with one the next morning, after I’d “slept on it.”

  10. One of the things to love re “Monk” is that it’s set in San Francisco (although part of the fun is finding details the show gets wrong!). (Will leave to your imagination all the Berkeley mistakes I’ve found in the movie “The Graduate”!).
Flashpoint” is filmed on location in Toronto, which is another of our favorite cities (we were just there last month, as it’s really not a long drive away, although Farmboy Husband did catch this tenacious cold there).

  11. Nicolette

Hand of God was quite interesting.

  12. Corey, hope you feel better soon.
I am binge watching Miss Fishers murder mysteries on Netflix.
Your bedroom looks cosy and comfy. Those textiles!
And I had to teach my husband to care for me when I am sick.

  13. Great, two sick people, plotting revenge, not taking care of each other? Call the WHO!

  14. Ahhhh! revenge! That happens here sometimes.

  15. LauraInSeattle

“Jane The virgin” is my binge drug. As are “Gilmore Girls”. Feel better, both of you.

  16. My choices would be Call the Midwife, Poldark, Doc Martin, and the Great British Baking Show. Something for everyone in that list. Never thought I’d get so hooked on a cooking show, but this one is charming and funny. You really get to know the contestants. I think you’d love it.

  17. Glad you are starting to feel better, Corey.
With teenage girls in the house binge watching is about shows they love – at the moment Glee for the almost comic book high school stereotypes and crazy fun music, and Heartland, for the family drama and above all the horses.
Others mentioned above that we’ve also been tempted to binge on are Monk and Sherlock, and then from way back Northern Exposure.

  18. Leslie in Oregon

I can’t stand to watch television, or stream a film or program on my computer screen, for longer than a couple of hours, so bingeing is out for me. When I’m sick, I read if I can and sleep if I can’t. I hope you do feel better tomorrow, but take it easy or your cold may come roaring back. Best wishes to you both, Leslie P.S. You might want to consider getting a flu shot when you are well, if you haven’t had one already.

  19. Ellen cassilly

So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. I actually woke up this morning thinking of you and thinking you did not get a good nights sleep. Sending much love and healing energy your way.
    Ellen

  20. Wish we could come take care of you but we leave tomorrow. We se prsying for speedy recovery—-sheree

  21. Chris Wittmann

I’d be watching either Mr.Bean, Fawlty Towers, or the Stooges…comedy is a great healer! Get well soon Corey, I’ve been absent so long and I’ve missed your blog. Have had your symptoms for weeks now but it’s allergies, boy have they been awful this Fall. I should buy stock in Kleenex.
This too shall pass! Get well soon!

  22. She Was Pretty is on HuluPlus and it’s the CUTest Korean drama about an “ugly girl” who used to be pretty and her job on a fashion magazine. It’s all about how the minor characters have stories too! So cute.

  23. Also, are there any French tv shows anywhere?? Good ones? I can’t find any online!

  24. RebeccaNYC

Since we don’t have TV, we basically binge watch any show we want to see via our computers or Apple TV. A big favorite is Doc Martin, and I just finished all six seasons of The Good Wife. The best part of watching TV this way? NO COMMERCIALS!

  25. Downton Abbey
    Girls
    Homeland
    Sex and the City
Hope you’re recovering despite the nursing care you’re receiving!

  26. Karen Carson

No binge -watching in this house…we like to space out the episodes of our favorite series! But what is with these adorable husbands of our’s? They are terrible nurses! I was in bed for three weeks last year and hardly saw the man!

  27. I’ve only binge-watched television with my son. The last time we were together we watched many episodes of Dr. Who together, reminded of the good old days when we lived together.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

  28. Back at work after being out 2 days with a cold. Miserable still. My hubby whined a bit too but came through. Understand the revenge jab!
Outlanders has been my binge watch of late!

  29. chris so glad to see you back BEST SOAPS IN THE WORLD!! Hope you and your husband are well as are the 4 legged loves-been a rough summer for me and mine-but steady now!

  30. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Toni,
Never heard of it… oh god does that mean a binge watch is in store?

  31. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Kim,
I hope you do not catch it again, it has been two days of sleep and binge for me, not wanting a repeat anytime soon!

  32. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Laurie
Okay I adore jessica lange’s acting, but anything scary or slightly scary, even a boo in daylight creeps me out. So I do not think a show with the word alone “Horror” is going to get me to sit down. Too bad I am a chicken.

  33. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi D
Modern Family, hey you know I like things old! lol.

  34. Tongue in Cheek

Oh no … no TV but you are going to make me binge streaming !!

  35. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi G
    Ditto comment to D
    I trust your opinions greatly!
    ๐Ÿ™‚

  36. Tongue in Cheek

    Oh Kathie
    Utterly the opposite!
    I like binging–
kinda gets it all out of the way.
    One big fat juicy bite.
a lot to savor, and that I can
    think about in parts.

  37. Tongue in Cheek

    ps
    I like spoilers too.

  38. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Nicolette
    Checking that out, sounds curious.

  39. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Alena
I think my husband French is beyond teaching. lol.

  40. Tongue in Cheek

    Calling Dr. Who, lol.

  41. Tongue in Cheek

Oh Good I am not alone!

  42. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Laura is Seattle,
Man almost all of these that everyone is mentioning I have never heard of. I live under a rock.

  43. Tongue in Cheek

Okay twice the British Baking Show has been mentioned. DO they pass samples through the screen? I guess being sick has an up side?

  44. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Kit
Sacha likes movies, but he stops them every two seconds and rewinds. Kind of like taking one step forward and two steps back. Monk? Sherlock? Glee I have heard of that, but only watch two or three shows, mostly you tube dancing bits.

  45. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Leslie
Oh I slept most the time 10pm to 2pm, but the best part about streaming is you can stop midstream and watch it later. I did not have the energy to read… though I love that more than watching something.

  46. Tongue in Cheek

    Dear Ellen
We will be forever connect. I love you. XXX

  47. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Elliot and Sheree
Hope you loved the Paris apartment. Cannot wait to hear what you found at the brocante.

  48. Tongue in Cheek

HI CHRIS!!! How are you? and the soapmaking? Sorry to hear about investing in Kleenex, hope you feel better soon. You create the best soaps!

  49. Tongue in Cheek

  50. Tongue in Cheek

WHat? Oh no my “Want to Watch List” is growing faster than wines I want to drink!!

  51. Tongue in Cheek

    I do not know.
    Sorry.
French TV , ARTE is suppose to be the best channel. Of course the last TV program I seen was French vs New Zealand Rugby, GOD THOSE KIWI are HUNKS!! I want to be there cheerleader. Sorry.

  52. Tongue in Cheek

    We think alike! No commercials!

  53. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Mardog
    Come pounce FH for me.
    Bring wine.
    And now what is Homeland?

  54. Tongue in Cheek

Oh no, three weeks? After two days I was thinking evil thoughts of revenge. God forbid three weeks, or a fire-y place might wait me. lol. Though I am sorry for you so unfair…. revenge? Please say yes or I will feel mean all by myself.

  55. Tongue in Cheek

    Hi Linda
Memories in any form with our children are the best medicine. Dr. who who?

  56. Tongue in Cheek

Two days, and bad nurses. We could start a club. Glad you are feeling better!

  57. Corey ME TOO!! I thought I was the only one-

  58. COREY ME TOO!!! People get so mad when I say I don’t care what happens tell me I am still going to watch!!

  59. Tongue in Cheek

    See we think alike ๐Ÿ™‚
I rather know then not know.
It is more relaxing that way.

  60. LOVE POlDARK!! Watch it Corey . . Loved it more than Downton Abbey and so did my buds!

  61. Julia – Vintage with Laces

I hope you feel much better soon, Corey. When you like Downton Abbey, I think you might also like “Mr Selfridge” and “The Knick”. Both series are set in the early part of the twentieth century.

  62. I give a strong second to “Doc Martin,” and I also love “The Great British Bakeoff,” and the not-perfect but addictive “Hand of God.” Another addictive series for me has been “Longmire,” something so far out of my normal fare that I can’t even fathom why I’m waiting with bated breath for the next season. I love the cinematography–lots of strange camera angles–and its focus on its setting in small-town Wyoming, creating a complete milieu that draws you in. Plus, it features several characters well into middle age forced into moral decisions.

  63. Chris Wittmann

Thanks for the kind words about the soaps, we’ve had our health issues to be sure, not fun getting older ๐Ÿ™‚ Our kitties are fine but our barn kitty disappeared before the huge blizzard late January. I caught sight of him just once early in April, horribly thin and terrified. I fear he had been trapped somewhere for many weeks. He ate the food I put out for him but wouldn’t come near me, that was the last I ever saw of him. Still miss the little guy.

  64. Chris Wittmann

Hi Corey!! Have missed your blog. It’s been a very strange year, had health issues that are not fun, trying to go the naturopathic way and praying things get better soon. I will send you soaps at the holidays for you and hubby. I’m not on facebook or other social media sites, but your brocante site sounds fun. Hope you and your family are well.
