Back in the Brocante Saddle

Back in the brocante saddle.

or in this case a canoe.

Oil painting on wood.

Whatever floats your boat as my dad use to say.

Brocanting floats my boat.

Putting some latest finds on my brocante shop.

Do you know what these are?

Do you know how I use them?

Brocanting is a way of recycling, an honest green effect.

History kept alive.

These are French cheese molds/strainers.

Last weekend I came upon a dealer selling old pharmacy jars. He mentioned that he bought the entire shop's basement. I can only imagine what a site that must have been. The bottles were interesting with their cork tops and handwritten labels. A great collection for a prop in a film. Yes, I have film props in mind. I think that could be my real calling. Finding props for film makers. Maybe one day for Sacha… that should keep me young.

What is a dream job of yours?

Another one of my finds… I bought an entire linen cupboard of hand made linen cloth. The cupboard was in a chateau. The owners sold everything. Sad but true. Back in the day, when farmers worked the land for the chateau owners they would pay part or all of their rent with the labor of their hands. In this case…. linen.

Never been used.

1800s French.

1800 Green Pottery Pitcher

Chipped perfection.

Not thrown away at the time because it functioned, plus at the time finding another was not be as easy as asking Amazon.

A slower world of hard work. Where progress was surviving, holding on, learning with what you had.

Same linen closet.

Monogram napkins, that are big enough to use as baby sheets.

A menu from dinner party.

The wine list intrigues me.

Oh to have one sip.

How cute is this handmade needle case?

Small oil painting on wood, a basket of flowers.

At times like this that sounds like the best way to go.

An oval silver dome.

I have been teasing Alice, since she is not a fan of Downton Abbey, how can that be!

Alice this is #Downton Abbey style love….

For the creators, makers, shakers, designers…

A little bit of everything:

Paintings, linens, silver, china, medals, ironstone, cloth, wood, jars…

  1. I found a perfect small remembrance for my sister and her husband! Thanks, Corey!

Oh thank you for this refreshing diversion into loveliness. I am amazed that the old never-used linens are so white still.
You and your casual ” I bought an entire linen cupboard of hand made linen cloth. The cupboard was in a chateau.” La la la, I was at a chateau. Instead of a yard sale or garage sale or even an estate sale, our friend Corey goes to entire-chateau sales.
PS. What DO you use the cheese strainer for in your real life?

  3. Corey, you have a wonderful eye.
My dream? To be vicomtesse of Vaux-le-Vicomte: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaux-le-Vicomte
Because things didn’t turn out so well for the vicomte.

Hahaha… oh chateauxs, oh well when in France. Please do not think me a snob, Chateauxs sell there stuff too. So many of them are for sale… middle of nowhere and too expensive to upkeep… I would love to own one if I did not have to pay for heating, roof repairs and crumbling walls. Forget the garden… Oh heck just buying the linens is good enough.

  5. Tongue in Cheek

well yeah I rather do that too, heck with prop designer.

  6. Giddyap, Corey!

  7. Everything is wonderful! Love, love the linens. Yes, prop person would be soooo fun!

  8. Gosh, it always amazes me that these very old & wonderful items still exist! Once about 25 yrs ago my intellectual friend, wrote me a beautiful poem for my birthday (that I can’t find) & I can only remember one word, “chatelaine”..of course, I had to look up the word then since I didn’t know. Chateau(x) is still the exotic, magical place in my imagination..I’ve never been & have never seen in real life so it sounds so sad that things are being sold & they are deteriorating…maybe, they can be turned into B&Bs & one day I can visit.

  9. Oh, forgot to say my dream job would be a movie set designer but in the past, the Golden era! 😄 I’ve always been slightly obsessed with the background.

  10. I would use those cheese strainers instead of my coeur à la crème molds.

Corey: The linens, how wonderful! I own a few of the napkins that could be babybed sheets! I love them and keep an eye out for more! I am living my dream through my shop Kindred Hearts Antiques and Gifts!
One day I hope to visit you!
