Living Poetry Roses, Violets and You

French Antique Vintage Images, corey amaro

Living poetry.

I found another massive old scrapbook at the brocante. It has over two hundred images of famous paintings most of the images come from a 1900s French magazine that use to show artwork on richly colored quality paper. It was popular back then to cut the images out and frame them, or put into a scrapbook. The scrapbook I found has a collection of romantic images.

Feel free to copy these, print them out or use them as your screen saver. I plan on selling the large scrapbook on my online brocante shop one of these days...

Until then here are a few old images of romantic paintings to enjoy, with some bits of poetry that you sent me.

Roses are red…

The photos I took of these images are not full scale, not the full image.

I have taken some of your lines of poetry from yesterday's blog post and added them here.

"What is snogging?" Somehow I think this woman in the photo knows….

To kiss and cuddle amorously.
"The pair were snogging on the sofa."

Thank you Urban Dictionary.

Roses are red

When you have a cold
You sneeze "Ah-choo!"

Roses are red
Violets are blue
When you have a cold
I say "Bless You!"

Roses are red
Violets are blue
When you have a cold
I ask "What can I do?"

Roses are red
Violets are blue
When your cold is gone
You bid it "Adieu!"

  1. I would like to thank the Academy and graciously accept my award for Best Screenwriter of a Limeric or Comic Poem. I would also like to recognize the other fine nominees in this category.
Even though I did not play by the rules, or write the poem….With apologies to the other entrants. 😉

    1. I love the illustration with the dark-haired woman with VERY direct gaze, above Jan Cole’s name.
    2. Oh my! That amazing slightly flamenco-dancer swirling striped gown with teal and mor colors! Above Gretchen.
    3. The one that is black and white, a girl holding out her delicate gauzy skirt, and you say “this is one of my favorites” is on of my favorites too.
    4. I would like to thank the Academy for listing me ahead of Diogenes.

  3. Sweet rhymes and even sweeter photos.
I have been known to cut my hair short like the woman in one of the first pics – but she looks like Lady Mary in Downton –

  4. What a fun post!
I received my 1900s chromo cut-outs and am using them in old glass paperweights.
    Thank you. 🙂

  5. Oh my, my, my. I want that scrapbook. Is it going to cost hundreds of dollars?

  6. Barbara Blizzard

Thanks for sharing the wonderful pages of the scrapbook. I love the young couple reading what I would like to think was their engagement announcement in the society news. And the young girl in what was most likely her first party dress. Keep on spreading joy to all of us.

  7. What creativity in words.
    Thanks for the pictures.
