Interrupt This Program for a Bit of Soul Food… Brocante

Brocante Passion 1

Brocante Passion. Soul food, brocante in big chunks to chew on, savor and to hold while the sweet juice run down my arms. I am crazy for this stuff and though I am really really trying to do the apartment in Cassis with a twist of a new clean fresh look… my heart leans towards French brocante.

My friend's Jean and Nathalie have a shop in Lourmarin. Their style, the way they put French brocante together is appealing, utter soul food. Not fussy, nor pretentious rather a style that makes one feel at home amongst beautiful old things.

Rough linen sheets used to reupholster arm chairs.

The painted walls in their shop are a perfect backdrop for photos.

Brocante passion 1e?

I will be strong. A brocante diet while I drool over their shop. Drool. Today I saw some mid century furniture and it felt like eating carrots and salad. Nothing wrong with carrots and salad…

A spoon full of sugar to the rescue. brocante passion.

Brocante passion 6

Cheese, bread and wine sort of things. brocante passion

No curvy lines.

Tomorrow we are ordering the bathroom. I will show photos.

The tub is out,

A washer and dryer are in,

A walk in shower with the coolest shower head won French Husband over,

A water heater that takes up valuable room but deserves it,

I so wanted a patterned tile floor, but I had to let it go as the tiny floor space really doesn't do it justice.

Maybe tomorrow will prove differently but I doubt it.

Who knew that buying a toilet and a water heater could be such fun.

The bedroom is next. xxx

PS Thank you Lilly and Marie for telling me there was something wrong with my blog post. I hope you can see the photos now?

Linen upholstered chair is beautiful. MCM will look like this one day too, if you know what I mean.

    Oh dear, withdrawl…

  3. Brocante is your middle name Corey, as essential as breathing and what draws me to you. 😘
I realise at times like this how self-focussed I am, I thought the lack of pictures was only happenening to me, it didn’t occur to me to let you know!😳

Don’t take up precious space with a traditional water heater. Install a Titan system instead! So many people told me about it until I finally listened. It makes a world of difference in a small home. It saves you money and there’s no risk of it breaking down and flooding your space. Google “Titan Water Heater”. I’m sure it or another brand is available in France. I highly recommend it!

  5. Why not have a streamlined kitchen with brocante accents throughout the house? Chandeliers, mirrors, some furniture. I’m an interior designer and have done this with contemporary lofts or downtown flats in which clients prefer antiques. Lots of fun.

  6. Yes, can see the photos now. Lovely!

Who painted those beautiful walls in Nathalie’s shop. So lovely. I did visit her shop once but don’t remember the walls! Would love to visit again,

  11. I think that’s what C would do anyway – and it IS a great idea! 🙂

  12. pity about the floor tiles – they are literally the thing I love most about an old house, although mine are partially broken, and the dirt of 100yrs is contained forever – but you will find solace in wooden floors, I’m sure!
You are so brave – and a dose of brocante is well deserved!

  13. Tongue in Cheek

True! That is what I keep saying to myself. But for the moment it doesn’t really speak to me. lol.

THANK YOU for the tip! http://www.tanklesswaterheater.com/products1.html
I will see if that exist in France!! Brilliant!

  17. Tongue in Cheek

Yes that is exactly what I hope to do, streamline with a few accent pieces. Otherwise I would probably hate it.

  18. Tongue in Cheek

Thank you for letting me know!!!

They did, Jean and Nathalie. Several years ago.

I agree I love old floors and the few tiles that were left were beautiful. But 90 percent of the floor tilted, I could easily slide from one end to the other. We had to build up the floor or have everything sliding into the port! lol

  22. So excited to be in France soon! Your post reminds me that I am on the hunt for a chandelier (I’m testing out a plastic one from Home Depot in my kitchen hoping I can convince JP that a real one would be sooo much better!). Your friend’s shop is lovely – I wonder how much to ship the elegant lady head to the US…
I know, JP would have a fit! See you soon.

We winter in Mexico every year, and the landlord has replaced the hot water heaters with the new tank-less Titan Water Heater models also. They give instant hot water that can be regulated as to how hot you want it, and take up less than a square foot of wall space. They are terrific! Hope you can find them in France!

  24. Jennifer McCracken

Oh yeah, that green pot in your first photo is to die for!

Corey, Please tell me how Brocante is pronounced? Or can someone on here tell me? I know it’s not the way it’s spelled…
