Another box full of gilded porcelain pedestals. Ideas raced through my head of what I could do with them, if only I wasn't carrying twenty books by Buffon I would have bought them too.

Why out of the many wonders at the brocante did this key grab my attention? I asked the dealer how much. And I bet you will never guess how much it cost.
In fact if you do guess I will send you a key, not this one, but a key nevertheless.

    Because you were so surprised……
I think the key is about one euro.
By the way, I’m loving the progress
of the apartment. What great fun!
Oh, and the lids, I collect lids.
I’d love to explore that whole box.

  2. Karen in Bucks County

My guess is “too much” because you didn’t offer the key as a prize!

  3. Jacklynn Lantry

    10 euro’s
If I win, may I please forgo the key and simply come to visit?????

  4. Five euros

  5. But I like Jacklynn’s idea best!

  6. Carroll Davies

    To be different-Two euros!

  7. RebeccaNYC

Well, I am guessing that the key was over 50euro. I want that box of lids, and I have no idea why. None whatsoever.

  19. Janice Flynn

My guess is 3 Euros. No reason other than that amount hasn’t been guessed yet!

  20. 16€

  21. Guessing 9€ for the key- love the picture frame!

  22. Chico Sue

The beautiful key for free because you are such a charming, beautiful bargainer?

  23. 4 euros!

  24. 28 € is my guess. The key is beautiful and I also love the the bits and pieces.
    Have a lovely Sunday, Corey!

  25. I think 5 euro

  26. I’m assuming it’s with the tassel. 35E. I hope you bought it. 🙂

  27. jend’isère

Since the key sports such an elegant tassle and you sport an accent I guess you were quoted $100. Yes, dollars I wrote. Have heard that in markets where it sounds pricier despite the exchange rate.

  28. Happy Sunday, loved looking at these photos, we are off to a fairly local big Brocante, outdoors this morning. The best part, it’s a beautiful warm sunny day with bright blue skies, so excited, off to find some treasure!

  29. Wonderful photos. Looks like a great brocante.

  30. Diogenes had my first answer, my second was free, so my third will be 1 cent. Beautiful photos, someday I hope to visit t brocante w you!

  31. Missbunny

Love that box of lids! Also since that key is not the prize and it has the tassel, I guess 17.5 E

  32. Charland

I love the top of your key. Is this another Key of Paradise?

  33. Paulette

    I’m sure he replied “Lagniappe!”
A little extra something for you and free!

  34. Oh,Corey…..this priceless little key unlocked the room where lovers shared everything even their souls……
    Missy from the bayou

  35. My favorite answer thus far, whether it’s correct or not 🙂

  36. When I was in Paris I purchased five keys, paying 1 Euro apiece. But none of my keys were as fancy as this. So, my guess is 6 Euro. You certainly saw some beautiful treasures this weekend. Envious as always.

  37. After seeing many guesses, and the delightful personality you exude as a buyer, I’ll still say it was free! ❤️❤️❤️

  38. 45 Euros?

  39. The key looked as if it is very small and the tassel is very ornate….so a key to a jewelry box…
The key was free…if you bought the beads…
    Ali

  40. Bonnie Schulte

I’m thinking if you bought the key, it was a very good price, at 1 Euro. If you did not buy the key, it was way way too expensive, maybe 25 Euro. If the key is really really old, maybe it is priceless…This is just too difficult..I know nothing! (grin)

  41. LauraInSeattle

I will guess ONE Euro…because it is from the secretary desk his EX WIFE took when she left with her young lover. He never wants her to be able to open the desk again.

  42. For you? Free!

  43. 12 euro’s for the key

  44. 65€ for the key
Ooh, What a fabulous find! Love those lids! The possibilities…

  45. Barbara Blizzard

How I would love to make a collage with some of those lids! I join the ones who believe he gifted you the key. Looking forward to more visits to the brocante in France this Fall.

  46. Judy in Fort Worth

girl, I think you got if for FREE – you are such a delightful lady, I bet you charmed that key right outta the dealer’s paw!!!

  47. Teddee Grace

The highest priced skeleton key I can find on line went for $1,000. I haven’t been able to determine why, but I’ll throw that amount in for fun.

  48. No, Sorry. But thanks for guessing!

  65. No, Sorry. But thanks for guessing!

  66. I wish I had too, but the price wasn’t right.

  67. I knew the dealer, he knows I am a buyer, but his price was not right for my pocket book!

  68. Good luck! What did you find?

  69. Thank you! One cent I like that! But it wasn’t true. I hope you come to brocante with me too!

  73. If only!! I would be dancing still!

  74. No, Sorry. But thanks for guessing!

  75. True indeed. Except it wasn’t free nor did it come home with me.

  76. I felt the same when the dealer said the price…

  77. No, Sorry. But thanks for guessing!

  78. They looked cute all bunched up like that. But no I did not buy them and the key was not 65 Euros. x

  79. See you this fall! No it wasn’t a gift!

  80. No, I wish I had, but not this time!

  81. Wow, I asked myself the same question? A thousand dollars is a big why.

  82. Brenda Locklear

    Was it $500?

  83. muffet@pacbell.net

Oh, Corey, I loved that picture. After viewing it, I went to my vintage spice box with drawers and found a key like that I got in a box of other stuff at a Michigan farm auction. However: NO TASSEL. I bet that was the prize. My daughter had an old tassel she got at a flea mkt. in SFO and sold it for $200! I could not believe it! So Euros? I guess 27–am I close?
    arnelle

  84. Leigh NZ

    I want another try…€125?

  85. 450 Euros ….
I love the “bits and pieces at the bottom of the box” – every one of them. Reminds me of the sweet stanhope that I got from your online brocante.:D

  86. The key must have unlocked a significant memory….150 euros.

  87. No idea on the key cost. I have a few that came with antiques. Hopefully, it’s a small fortune! Love the glimpse into your world.

  88. Rebecca currently in Isla Mujeres

    1. 150 euros. Because I just read your next-day post.
    2. A roach clip.
    3. (Where is this brocante, and I’m thinking that next time I go to brocantes, I need to focus more on taking photos like you do, less on drifting around feeling intrigued by everything but too overwhelmed to buy anything.
