The Leaves Singing in the Wind

Our friends who we have known since we arrived in Provence twenty six years ago, came for a picnic today. We walked to the river (tiny as it is) five minutes away from our house.

The gratitude I have for Michelle and Herve is enourmous, they are salt of the earth type of friends, geniune, easy going and creative fun. They came by with their two grand children: Sophia and Arlo.

I miss having children around… Sophia is five and Arlo is three.

As the Mistral blew Arlo stopped looked up at the mighty plain trees, "What is that sound?"

Ah the delights of a three year old, to take note of nature, to question, to wonder in awe, "What is that sound?"

He listened as I said that it was the leaves singing in the wind.

We sat under those big trees,

the blue sky,

had a picnic,

enjoying the moment.

Sophia playing as children do in their magical world, that allows us to remember what we have forgotten and need.

  1. What a special picnic. How I would have loved sitting and listening to the trees sing. Little ones just make listening and paying attention so very special.

  2. Beautiful. Children draw out the magic in everyday things, don’t they.

  3. We’ve had a few windy days here in Arizona lately and I was thinking that I rarely read anything from you about the Mistral. Could you please tell us about it and if it affects your moods or sense of well being?

  4. Lovely friends and Mother nature…make for a beautiful time. Sounds delightful!

  5. Shelley Noble

How charming of you to stoke his wonder. Amen, amen.

  6. The magic of nature with children. I walk with my children several times a week, through the marshes, the vineyards, the beach or even in the garden. I will always try and point out new growth to them and they in turn will spot insects and pretty wild flowers. It’s my favourite time of the day always

  7. Aren’t kids just the best? It becomes easy, a pleasure, to enter into their magic world.

  8. Aussie Leonie

My little Godson who is now 48 was frightened of the thunder & I told him it was Thor stomping around heaven. He was quite happy & settled down to sleep.

  9. I miss littles having around also.
I miss reading to them, playing with them, having them around.
    So agree.

  10. How wonderful to experience a time in nature with young children….pure magic that pulls us away from the every day of our “adult world”. You are blessed to have these experiences.

  11. Children do introduce you to things that you’ve forgotten. What a joy.
