Views From my Kitchen Counter

Views from my kitchen counter. Where I am most of the time.

Brocantes finds take center stage. Recycling at its best.

Silver utensils in a mustard pot, yes that one chunk mustard pot. The French had a thing for mustard there is no denying when you see the mustard pots.

Silver is a good buy at the brocantes. When buying it make sure the joints are solid and the silver is not worn off. Most people do not buy it because they thing it is too fancy or too much upkeep. I use it everyday. If you use silver it does not have time to tarnish.

Creil pottery stained from usage.

Before jars, plastic, before throw away… before buying things pre-packaged…

A household had to have a great deal of pottery to store food.

A glass measuring cup from the 1900s

One of my favorite pieces.

The glass measuring cup has etched markings.

Do you like silverware?

What kitchen things do you collect? Do you use it?

The painting, Yann calls her Eglatine.

Eglatine is in our kitchen.

Her eyes follow us.

Sacha painted the kitchen green for me in January.

An old wooden scorekeeper board, with pharmacy jars and the word menu made in metal.

What does your kitchen look like?

  1. Eglantine is a perfect name.
We have silver and use it daily. No “special” stuff–we use special for ourselves, every day. Life is short.
Brocantes are a wonderful way to recycle. I’m with you.

How do you pronounce Eglatine? Hard G? Soft G? I wish there was a sound component and FH could say it for us in his sexy french accent. My kitchen has big, giant metal letters too. They are E A T:) Long ago I started using vintage glass jars with metal tops for things like flour and sugar. I got the idea from Auntie Edie, who (sadly) passed away in 2005. It’s a very New England thing to do. Love your kitchen Miss Corey:)

What do you use the shaving brush for? Pastry brush?

  4. I have art work hanging in my kitchen-I do change it out if another piece comes across my path-right now it is a piece from the Dordogne(a painting of a white brick wall for a liquor depot) region in France-on the other wall is a botanical print of a pear and to the right on a small space (a window wall) are mounted labels from the wines of Provence and Corsica -one of my favs-my counters have vessels holding the utensils I use for cooking and canisters(pink depression glass-my mom’s mayfair pattern) for coffee tea sugar-and the like green walls too-light blonde wood cabinets stainless appliances and sink(which I would like to replace with a stone farm house type) must be smaller as the room could not accommodate authentic size-I do not use silver because I only have my mom’s which I never use not for sentimentality just never have-dishes are varied-mugs are all from starbucks (like their capacity and size particular about that linen dish towels toile table cloth-little bit of everything-I love art in the kitchen! Eglatine looks PERFECT there!

  5. Love all I see here. My kitchen is 1950’s era yellow and turquoise with red touches. Lots of that era vintage pieces.

  6. Beautiful vignettes. The wall color is very popular for painting studios.

Your kitchen seems like a wonderfully elegant place.
    My kitchen is very English.
I grew up in the homes of both
    my very English grandmothers in
Western Canada. My kitchen is full
    and warm just like theirs.
I have all my stuff out where I
can see it, as “Taste of France”
    said…..Life is short.
I want to see and use and enjoy all of it.

Beautiful painting and the green is gorgeous. My kitchen is compact but thanks to you and your Nespresso machine I have a designated coffee counter with every sexy Nespresso accessory available! I have the painter coming tomorrow, again you are to blame but that’s another storey.

  9. The big mutarde pot and the measuring cup are such great finds and I’m totally in love with the scoreboard and the metal menu sign. I used to have a thing for silverware but my taste has changed and now most of the pieces in our collection are too baroque for me.

I collect old grape-patterned silverplate, about five different patterns, and mix them. I set the table with it on holidays and special occasions. I don’t use it every day because I won’t let it go in the dishwasher and wash it by hand. Also collect ironstone and blue transferware. My kitchen has black and white toile wallpaper with white cabinets. Love it. I feel happy when I am cooking there, music playing.

  11. The photos look like paintings! Friends say my extremely small kitchen looks very French and cozy. Don’t know why.,HA, The cabinets and walls are semigloss white, save for the wall above the backsplash which is French blue. An antique French blue enamel coffee pot is on display with three cafe ay lait bowls. An antique French postcard showing three chefs in a chaotic kitchen is framed in red. An autographed photo of Julia Child supervises near the stove. Silver is used every day.as are the green depression glass plates from one grandmother and the Hull Brown Drip stoneware aka the boat China. That is because my Aunt used it when serving meals on her family’s boat. It is a room full of love and memories.

  12. Lovely to look at — and a wonderful place to call the heart of the home.

  13. My kitchen is in progress to be French.
Its hard to find interesting and beautiful things around here.
But I do collect cake stands and I often display my baking creations on them.
Corey I Love Love your kitchen and since you like to cook that makes it perfect.

  14. LOVE THIS MANTRA!!

  15. SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM!!!

  16. Your attention to details/color sounds like perfection-LOVE!

My silver plate flat ware lives in big glass sugar bowls on a wide windowsill. My apartment has a small galley kitchen from the 50’s with yellow metal cabinets. Lots of my floral mix and match china is out and pretty crochet dress pot holders hang on magnet cup hooks on all the cabinet doors.
I don’t really cook except for my morning steel cut oats but I collect old pretty china like crazy.

  18. I love your brush and oil pitcher!!
    Faience, lots of it:)

  19. this kitchen sounds adorable!!

  20. Beautiful; contemplative.

  21. I have lots of old silver in my kitchen too, collected over the years from my annual pilgramage around French country brocants. Amongst the silver you’ll see mostly old English floral china, as well as blue French china also collected at brocants, intesting little junk shops and antique stops. I love, use and treasure them everyday as they fill my heart wondering what their stories are!!

  22. Love the old mix and match silver pieces, I use mine also. My Kitchen is a mix of primitive antiques, and New Orleans during the primitive years,
