French Husband has a Feathered Friend

Baby bird

Still a baby. Feeding and teaching him how to fly … beautiful swallow (hirondelle), that is actually a European black swift (martinet noir). Tomorrow we think it will be ready to fly.

    That is amazing!

  2. I like that French Husband of yours more and more all the time, Corey!

  3. One arrived at our house in Vers Pont du Gard after falling into the street from his nest. For one month we enjoyed “Waldo’s” company Dried cat food was his preferred meals. What fun to watch him grow and develop quite a personality. One day, he began in the courtyard, flew thru the house, and out the kitchen window We do know he returns every spring to wish us a happy year. Enjoy!

I found a baby bird once, took care of it for a while, when I finally brought it outside, the mother bird recognized it, fed it fallen plums from the tree and was chirping loudly trying to get it to fly……I was amazed.

  5. Fly away little friend, fly away!

What a wonderful picture. How kind your FH is to take care of this young bird.
We have a feeder for hummingbirds on our patio and enjoy watching their frequent visits. But we’ve never had one come inside.

How are you teaching him how to fly? Just curious… :>)

    What a tender heart. 🙂

  9. What’s its name?

  10. It is! Yann has taken such good care of the black swift.

  11. Oh I love that! I will tell Yann. The black swift likes wet cat food with yolk.

  12. How sweet that is. To see nature unfold before your eyes transforms our understanding of it doesn’t it?!

  13. Yes! We certainly hope so!

  14. It has been a delightful experience to watching it gather strength and yann’s devotion to aiding it well.

  15. The little bird needs to stretch its wings, so it perches on Yann’s finger and flaps away. Also Yann stands by while it stumbles and falls, Yann smoothes its feathers and perches it again and again. Or it perches on a chair next to Yann. If he kept it is a box it would not be able to flap its wings, which it needs too, plus it cannot live in a box all the time. Teaching it to fly might be an overstatement 😉

  17. I hope it flies away and is safe, let us know how it goes when it is time to say goodbye!

  18. Can’t wait to show my grandchildren “the pokie thing” your husband caught.
    lovely story.

So impressed but not surprised by the tenderness shown – and the picture is amazing.
