In a Small Town in Provence….

Deep in Provence, during summertime the small villages come alive with a atmosphere of old time goodness. The days are longer, the lavender is cut, the fields golden, most people take time off for vacation, tourist are abundant and the villages have various celebrations, through the day and night. Tonight our friend Lisa's village celebrated Pistou! A provencal soup of vegetables of the season with garlic and basil, or I should say garlic and basil soup, for 500 people! The oldest person attending was honored, she was 97 years old.

We walked down the lane from Lisa's house to the center of the old town to the "Pistou Party".

This morning there was a brocante in her village. It doesn't get better!

Is that heaven? It looks like heaven to me…

  2. DIVINE is RIGHT!!

  3. Now that sounds like a very fun event, especially the dancing.

  4. Taste of France

Looks so fun, and so familiar–the village may change, even the featured dish, but the feel stays the same. That’s what makes them quintessentially French.

  5. Our French Oasis

This is truly what France is all about in the summer, it’s why I love it so much

How incredibly cool! We used to have an annual block party when I lived in Pensacola, and it had this same vibe.

  7. Delightful and delicious on the soup.

  8. Deborah from Granbury, Texas here. Love this! The weather looked so nice. How does everyone drink wine all day & not fall over? Lol!

  9. A real sense of community. It sounds like a wonderful evening. I like the picture of FH wandering down the country road.

  10. Hi Corey,
I enjoy reading your blog. It’s simply amazing that you manage to post everyday with everything you have going on.
I was wondering if it would be possible at some point to do a new post (or several) about being a vegetarian in France. Apparently the food at this fête was meatless but how do you mangage when it’s not or even at the brocantes with the staple food: saucisses/frites?
It would be nice to have more of your own vegetarian recipes as well if possible.
    Cheers,
    Anita

  11. It’s already one week we are back from pur vacation in south France, for three days we stayed in Uzes, I guess it’s not far from where you live, and I really like the atmosphere of those villages, that’s why we keep coming back to France!
