A Saturday Afternoon in Lorgues

The language of color do you know how to speak it? Those facades! How that must have been a conversation: What color should we paint our house? And the shutters?

Language of color:

Pop.

Splash.

Outside the lines.

Red.

Orange.

Pretty in pink.

Stone house. Stone steps

Door not as old, though nevertheless older than anyone hanging around.

Painted Pop Splash Blue as the Sea.

Would you be as daring?

I doubt I would, but gee it was like a movie star on that street; Talk about an attention grabber.

Did you know that church bell towers in Provence are covered with an elaborate forged iron dome? The Var region has the most forged iron domes.

A handful of photos from the charming village of Lorgues.

Far away from the beaten path, nearly out of town, a plain wooden door with a century old lock that looked like it hadn't been used in a very long time.

Cinderella and the glass slipper.

I liked it best.

An artist told my sister “For the most “color punch,” pick colors opposite each other on the color wheel. She painted a wall in her kitchen azure blue and hung a lovely painting with primary colors in shades of orange. Colors by the name of coral, sunrise, carrot, cantaloupe, apricot and goldfish. It was spectacular. When I saw your pictures it was the first thing I thought of…they use a lot of azure/cantaloupe combinations. I remember watching the sun set on those buildings and thinking “they look as if they are lit from within.” Lovely, lovely, lovely. Corey, your life is magical, your world the stuff of dreams. Thanks for sharing it with me.

  2. Ahhh those colors. The people who chose them must be jolly, optimistic people. They would be wonderful to know. The buildings are very beautiful.

  3. Loved the photos and the colors. Yes, I would take the door with the pop of color.

  4. your photos are the best and the commentary along with them, par excellence!
I do not speak the language. I wish I did.

  5. So pretty! We weren’t allowed to choose the color of the shutters for our apartments in Carcassonne. The building is classee, and the Batiments de France told us which color we could use.

I agree with all that Jacklynn says here. And I just love reading the color names she uses:
azure, coral, sunrise, carrot, cantaloupe, apricot, goldfish (“goldfish”? !)
