The autumn season is cooling the summer away, the leaves are changing and soon the melons will not adorn the  grocer's shelves. The fading summer nights lead to dining inside.

The house next door is nearly done. I have slipped on taking photos of the progress. Hopefully it should be done this weekend, and then we will re start in Cassis.

I hope you will come stay, it is a lovely spot.

Come to France let me show you what I adore, the "slow travel" as my friend Peggy calls it. Taking time to be, to listen, to soak in the simple pleasures. To not care if you see it all, rather to be present to the moment at hand.

Violette artichokes.

Fresh with olive oil, salt, vinegar and a hint of garlic.

Multi color rainbow radishes.

A bouquet!

Wash the lemons add them whole to a jug of water and a handful of blueberries, you can refill it with water several times.

Refreshing sweetness.

Franki moved half way across the world to follow love. Married with children we had much in common on what it is like to uproot one homeland for another and how to raise children with two cultures. Thank you for meeting me Franki and for the lovely meal shared in Cassis.

A painting I picked up at the brocante and will be listing soon. Provence pure slice of beauty.

Do not come to France on a diet, otherwise you will torture yourself.

A massive wooden butcher block, worn movement in the wood. Though a beautiful object it haunts with the reason it is that way.

The last of the summer delight.

Changing colors.

  1. What a beautiful post Corey, slow travel in Provence enjoying it in all the ways you suggest is my kind of holiday…already planned!!
Lovely photos; next time I’d love to find a couple of small still life oil’s at the brocante…the two of the fruit are beautiful! Are they hard to find these days? X

  2. Gorgeous symbols of France.

  3. Love each and every photo! Hoping and praying next summer is the summer I CAN come! Are the beds in the house next door comfy??! lol . . . no, seriously . . . Are they? Hope so!

  4. If only I could find artichokes like these. Once you cook and eat a freshly picked one there is no going back to those things pawned off as artichokes in New England grocery stores. Loved all your photos in this post.

  5. this is such a beautiful post…it is happening here to-summer tomatoes-love out door dining love-wine in all flavors and varieties-slow pace gosh could I use some of that-I just hung a new oil in my kitchen for the changing season-passed on a winter one….regret it now closing my eyes and dreaming this life in your pictures!

  6. Taste of France

I love your photos. Some of them look like Old Masters still lifes, the lighting is so remarkable.

  7. Yum, Corey – you should put a vegetarian Provençal cookbook together – maybe with some much-loved recipes from your mother and aunt as well. No one has done this (Provençal vegetarian), so far, I think, and you are definitely the person who could pull it all together with knowledge and panache. As if you need another project – but think of it as public service.
You might offer a four or five-day Muse experience with the emphasis on food, also, if you could accommodate multiple cooks in the kitchen.
Start with the cookbook, though – I’m waiting for this –

  8. Tongue in Cheek

Yes they are hard to find, and then again when you come you will probably find ten for a couple of Euros! Let’s wish it true! The two above are in the French country home that we rent for the French Muse

  9. Tongue in Cheek

The House Next Door is ready this week! And of course the beds are comfy, the best for the best !!

  10. Tongue in Cheek

Thank you for the generous compliment and vote of confidence! We tailor make each of our French Muse, we can offer cooking classes if the group wants that. We do know a thing or two about cooking xxx

  11. oh my! each of these photos is lovelier than the last! That produce is to die for! Sheer perfection. I wish I could find those here. Enjoy the bounty of the season. 🙂

  12. Your pictures are particularly lovely today!

  13. Rebecca from the pacific northwest

I’ve been clinging to summer, because it felt like I didn’t get enough of it this year. Now that we’ve had some fall rains, though, and fog is just starting to adorn the tops of the hills around the harbor (although spider webs aren’t yet gleaming like strings of dew-encrusted pearls) I’m starting, just starting, to accept that fall is here. I put a fall colored quilt on my bed just this morning. Sigh. I live somewhere that summer is too beautiful, too short. (Unlike hotter places I’ve lived where it’s unbearable and goes on forever, and fall is a literal breath of fresh air!)
I sighed with contentment at the very first photo on this post, those pots in my favorite shade of green. I thought to myself, Corey can’t possibly surpass this photo with any others she puts up; just stop here Corey. But then came more the same green in those folded chairs leaning against a tree. And then more and more delights. Another favorite was the one with two cherry ornaments each floating in its own little imprinted metal boat.
Now I”m a little bit jealous of your friend Franki. The rest of me is happy for her.

“To not care if you see it all, rather to be present to the moment at hand.”
    Wise words, well put.
It’s my life philosophy and personal challenge: to go deeper, rather than wider or further.
    Beautiful blogging, Corey, as usual.
    xo
