A Cat Named Lola

Photo 2

Repost from 2009

Chelsea came home for the weekend. Later in the evening she said, "Mr. Espresso has a cat name Lola. Though for him it is not just a cat. Anyway, for the longest time I thought Lola was a person. He talked about her constantly, I started to feel tints on green around me. I thought to myself, on more than one occasion, "I am going out with him and yet his heart is obviously divided between Lola and me!"
Thankfully, I never mentioned my feelings, and when I heard Lola was a cat, I was relieved. But then again… he does love Lola.

When did you start reading my blog?

  1. Chelsea was in high school as I recall. Wow….must be one of your first readers!

  2. 8 or nine years ago before I took a trip to Paris and found your blog while searching antique stores to visit in Paris and your blog came up. Your kids were at home and I think Warren was about 5. How long ago was that? You are the one blog I try to read every day. And if I miss a day or two I always read what I missed!

I’m going to say about 4 years ago. I seldom miss a day and if I do I catch it the very next day. Love it!

  4. Loving that Chelsea was confused about Lola, sweet hilarity! As far as how long have I been reading… seems like forever, that said, I know I was a lurker for years before I ever made a comment!

  5. Must be about 9 years ago, since I was working at the time and loved sneaking away from the stress of work once in the while just to read your blog. I didn’t leave comments the first couple years because I didn’t have a blog then. You were a sweet, peaceful respite. Thanks so much!!! Love Lola!

  6. I started reading when your children were in the very first years of high school.

  7. I started reading when your Dad was ill and you were in Willows. I have no idea what year that was.

  8. I started reading when your Dad was ill and you were in Willows. I have no idea what year that was.

  9. When you were dancing at the I-Beam. Well, almost that long.
    Loved every minute.

  10. Hmmm-mm, when you read something 365 times a year…it’s hard to remember how long you’ve done that 🙂 I guess I started about 7 years ago. I read it every night before going to bed. Thanks for every wonderful entry….
    nitey-nite.

  11. I’m guessing sometime in 2006? It was back when I had a blog and participated in Sunday Scribblings. That was 10 years ago! Is it any wonder that your family feels like part of my own? Can’t thank you enough for the many years of expanding our knowledge, taking us with you on your travels, introducing us to your family and friends, and being a warm and welcoming hostess here at Tongue in Cheek. I am looking forward to all the new adventures just around the bend.

I started reading your blog in 2007. When I finished my work (medical transcription) I would read your blog every day. I developed a short list of favorite blogs but yours was my favorite I Would say. You always seem so down to earth and fun to be around, although I love that you share your vulnurabilities. Besides your love for writing and photography , you have an amazing family and now quite the home renovator.
Since I have started reading your blog I have been to France three tmes. Each time was amazing.
Now I read your blog on Bloglovin which I love. Thank you Corey for sharing your life. I follow you on Instagram too.

  13. I believe about 3 years. the first post I read showed a lovely woman in a sexy dress with high heels at a party or the Eiffel Tower or someplace else and your post was kind of like, this is how it is in France! It was quite refreshing compared to sweat suits in USA.

  14. I started reading your blog in early 2007, I think. I found you from a comment you left on someone else’s blog and have followed ever since. I read on my phone and commenting is more difficult, but I never miss a day. I share your stories with my hubby sometimes, too. Thank you for sharing of yourself with all of us!

  15. The kids were in high school…time flies. They have both grown into fine adults. I met your Mom the year your Dad passed away. We had never met before but when I told her I read your blog every day she asked if she could give me a hug. I felt like I was your surrogate that Saturday. Your pictures and description of your Mom’s shop were so clear I had no trouble finding it. I share your pictures and stories with family and friends, extending the wake of your influence. I so miss Your Annie. Revel in your time at home with family and friends!

A looooong time before Mr. Coffee was even a bean in someone’s eye. 😉

I activated my subscription on November 4, 2013, upon discovering Tongue in Cheek and reading one post! Thank you for sharing your life and your spirit with us, Leslie in Oregon

  18. that’s when I started reading as well.

I believe it must have been early on, but not at the beginning. I opened my store (which is now closed) in 2006 and the owner of a local antique store spoke about you. I have been following every since; quietly, but following. Your writings and musings about life in general, family and French life speak to my sense of what appears to be life well lived, savored, full of integrity and passion. I applaud your dedication. Don’t hesitate to post more recipes as they are also a great reflection of life in France.
N.B. Today is the Antique Market in Arezzo – be still my heart. Hope we don’t get too lost and end up somewhere in the hills of Tuscany.

  20. I’ve been reading your blog for years — maybe eight or nine years. Yes. 🙂

  21. I can’t remember the year but when I first began reading I remember a picture of you in the bathtub! Nothing risqué! haha! I have read your blog every day and have shared it with many. Have shared with friends and family and now several of them read it. Thank you for every word, thought, and photograph, Corey. I hope to meet you one day. xo

  22. Oh, gosh. Five years, I think. I was researching a possible trip and somehow magically landed upon your blog. Bam! Hooked. Your stories drew me in and held me captive. After finally realizing my trip this past summer, a piece of my heart was left behind and your stories and pictures have become even more personal to me. There is not a day that goes by without Sarah, Jim, nor I thinking or talking about our trip, our friends, or our return. xoxo

Thank goodness I’ve been “reading ” your blog so long,I honestly can’t remember when I wasn’t. ( It doesn’t feel like reading, more like we’re visiting). I’m the good listener. Ha ha !
I know the first post I read that really hooked me was “how to make an apple “tart”. I don’t think that’s the right word. Anyway, there was lots of bitter, some instructions, very few actual measurements for the ingredients….my kind of cooking! My kind of friend. I have been to Paris twice since then, but I’ve been too shy to venture out of the city, and contact you. My loss!
Much love and gratitude for all of the glimpses into your French life and your visits home to California.
    Bless you always,
    Sandra Schneider

  24. It’s been a few years anyway, can’t remember, but read it each day for my French fix!long may you continue!

  25. I had to look back at your archives…Dec, 2006!

  26. Suzette Bannister

I discovered your blog about two years ago when I was looked for French furniture and decor ideas. I’ve been so wrapped up in the corporate world I never paid much attention to the world of blogging until more recently. And now so glad I did! The French Muse trip in May 2016 was the best! I’m leaving tonight, so I will see you tomorrow. Looking forward to staying in the Tiny House!

  27. Julie Loeschke

    2006?I think so. 😀

  28. I don’t actually remember; maybe around 7 years ago…and then I read through your whole archive right back to your very first entry. The best bit, I’ve won 2 of your contests; one for a story involving a bicycle and one winning a week staying at your home!!

  29. I would have to say 9 or 10 years ago. I was reading a lampwork bead makers site and she listed your blog as one that she followed. That woman no longer makes beads and I can’t even remember her name. But I feel very fortunate to have found your blog and even more fortunate that I have met you, twice!

  30. I discovered Tongue in Cheek in the summer of 2009 while researching France for our upcoming Fall visit. I was so enthralled to read your descriptions of your life in France as an American. I remember telling my friends the romantic story of how you and Yann met. They thought I really knew you. Well, I do consider your a friend and know we will meet in person some day. I haven’t given up on staying in your Paris apartment either!

  31. I began reading your blog in 2006 and it has been a daily delight ever since. Your stories of the Azores history of your family were especially relevant as I was living and working in the Trinity River valley..many of the folks there and in the coastal towns were from Portuguese families and your family history was delightful to share with them. There is even a Portuguese Hall in Ferndale and annual festivals.. your family experiences in Willows added to my understanding of the people and events I was experiencing.
And I fell in love with France and your family and each day would not have been complete without my early morning “chat” with you. Ten years of delight for me. And your recipes have all been favorites when I share them with family and friends. One day I am hoping that I will travel from my retirement home in Montana to France and stay in one of your wonderful places.
Thank you, my friend, for all that you have shared that blesses my life.

  32. i think it was 2008-i read long before I commented-a highlight of my day…everyday-love it here-and the community too!

  33. Guess I’ve been reading/lurking for about six years. I don’t comment often, but I love reading everyone comments.

I don’t even remember how I found you.
But I’m oh so glad I did.
Even though we have never met,
you have become one of my dearest friends.
I think at least four or five years now.
    I don’t comment a lot really,
but I read your words every day.

  75. Paula Tyner

Golly, I am unsure. Somewhere after 2007 I suspect. I had found you while doing the internet search for antiquing. I let you go.
And, then I searched the internet to find you again! I am not a blog woman, but whatever you had said, stuck to me. And, I found you!
I feel your family is part of my life. Thank you so much. And, your cheer. And, your wisdom.

  76. Debby in Texas

I began following you almost one year ago after my trip to Peovence with Red Shed Tours and our unforgettable visit to your lovely home. You are an inspiration and I follow your blog and read every single post. But I have a question: I never found the “rest of the story” of your first trip to France with Yann when you went to his uncles estate. I’ve been so curious if you were able to receive any of the items to furnish your home with? I hope you see this and let us know how the experience turned out. Love you Corey!

  77. Wendy in Kennewick

I don’t remember how long it has been. But it is always a welcome respite from daily life. Thank you for sharing all that you do.

  78. I believe in 2010. It was such a wonderful addition to my day and continues to be! I remember the posts about Sacha and his BMX tricks.

  79. Rebecca from the pacific northwest

And some of us feel like we know each other too, because of the duration of interaction with you and reading each other’s responses/offerings.
I guess I’m since 2008 or a little before as well, as I was following for the photos of Provence, then your dad got sick and you went to stay with him, and you opened yourself, your pain, your hope, your gentle faith up in such a transparent way to us that I was smitten.
It culminated in David’s and my being one of your many, many visitors thanks to your blog. Oh how I enjoyed you (and Yann) in person!

  80. Rebecca from the pacific northwest

What a wonderful bunch of answers to a very interesting question! I answered above underneath someone else’s beginning place. What a delight you and your blog are!
