Fueling of the Soul

Mystical Morning Call

The call of the morning

Early this morning as the sun was adding gold to the sky my youngest brother Zane called, "The geese are here, the field is white, if you want to take photos now is the time."

I jumped out of bed threw a jacket on over my PJs, brushed my teeth, but not my hair, and drove to the fields.

As we drove to the ranch I felt that surge I have come to know as my fuel. My fuel is what makes me a better me, makes me feel alive and happy, it heals my wounds, it restores my faith, it connects me to God's love, the greater knowing, the center of life itself… that which is good.

I felt it, stopped right there and then letting it soak through me,

absorbed my surroundings, took it in gulps, thanking the high heavens for such beauty, for such a life, for my family and for knowing the gift that it is.

Leaning on that moment, with humble gratitude.

I love those moments, that come with the day, no reason though not always received.

How they affect each of us differently. Some see a field, some see a harvest, some see work, some see stress, and some see paradise.

I see home land.

The base of who I am.

Not matter where I am I will always be home because home is with me.

What fuels your soul

I could say many things inspire me, such as the brocante… but what fuels me? Something beyond anything I can tag and tame, something that stirs without knowing when or why, a mystical moment that comes up and says, "Here I am I am yours".

Life is simply a gift to accept, so when it speaks intimately to the center of that vast unknown part of myself I believe I must pause to honor.

What fuels your soul?

  1. Oh how beautiful! Both the pictures and your words. These are Snow geese aren’t they? Did you ever read the story, The Snow Goose, by Paul Gallico? Such a tender, spiritual and beautiful story. Thank you for this. Many things fuel my soul. Nature and all its wonders is definitely the one which never fails, I guess.

  2. By the way, Corey, I also wanted to just say, in your photos the geese look like the Heavenly Host dropped down to Earth, just to bless the moment and you, and we who are lucky enough to be reading.

  3. Quiet moments outdoors fuels me. Your early morning photos and a brother that knows to call you to come and see is most wonderful. It is those little things that cost no money that fuel us. God’s creation.

  4. Great that you caught the moment. There are so many moments of beauty. Sometimes when I look at the flowers in our garden I know it is a slice of paradise with their beauty. Irises, Asiatic Lilies, even a cactus flower is so delicate and beautiful. When I look at them I thank God for his beautiful creation.

Great photo’s, great post Corey…I felt, viscerally, what you wrote.

  6. #2 reminds me of that famous Escher drawing!

  7. When you think these sorts of flocks used to be so much bigger and so many more of them….re-reading the Little House books you really get a sense of the devastation we caused to nature, already back in the 1800s.
Thanks for capturing these birds for us.

  8. Reminds me of home,,,, everyday the geese, gather and fill the field behind my house, I never tire of the sound, or the visual beauty of the geese taking flight. My little dog use to love to run under them in the field when they took flight, this little dog was filled with sheer joy running with his ears a flapping and grin on his doggy face. I often wondered whether my dog though he was the one of them, or he was the one responsible for making them fly up to the heavenly skies Either way it was a joy to watch time and again, I still can see my dog running if I catch the light just right, now in his heavenly spirit,

  9. Such stunning photos, there is something, like you that I cannot put into words, about being out in the country, alone with nature, especially early in the morning whilst half the world sleeps, something that does indeed fuel the soul.

  10. Wonderful photos! I can feel the energy and the air vibrating from those hundreds of wings. While all of nature feeds my soul, I’m especially touched by the ocean and its waves. Helps me put myself into perspective and into my proper place in Creation.

  12. I so agree with “our french oasis”, it’s difficult to put into words. Corey, your pictures are just stunning! Thank you for jumping out of bed to capture and share with us.
My entire family are snowbirds..we live up north in Canada but migrate each winter to soak up the sunshine of the southern United States.
We lost my Mom one evening last January during a beautiful northern sunset. I always remember her saying she woke up excited every single morning of her life, anticipating what the day might bring. She loved telling people that she was a snowbird and that nature was her church. Life and the change of seasons fuelled her soul. I see glimpses of her and my Dad flying high in your pictures..
    Merci Corey

  13. Stunning! The words and photos. Thank you for sharing.

  14. Your gorgeous photos fueled my soul this afternoon and reminded me of a precious moment I shared with my late mother years ago. She had a 60% hearing loss for most of her life and missed so many joyful times in a home that was filled with her father’s music. I always thrilled to the sound of the snow geese that flew so high every season when they were coming and going, but my mother could never hear them. In her last year, we had purchased her an exquisite pair of new hearing aids, and when she finally heard the beautiful music of the traveling geese, her face lit up like a beacon that brightens my life to this day.

  15. Thanks
