Winter Delicious-ness

French brocante soup tureen

Three leeks sliced into halos,

Four potatoes in their red jackets, diced,

One long orange carrot sliced, to add color,

Put the halos, the red jackets and the carrot into a pan, barely cover the friends in vegetable bouillon.

Bring to a boil,
Then lower the heat to simmer until the vegetables are tender (but not mushy).

Ladel

Add three heaping tablespoons of cream fraiche,
One tablespoon and a tad more of curry powder,
A dash of celery salt, salt and pepper to taste, and
a healthy splash of the white wine in your drinking.
Blend briefly so there is a mixture of creamy delicious-ness, and chunky goodness. Serve hot with some crusty bread and cheese.

  5. Here in Perth on Australia Day it’s 40°C +, but come winter this yummy sounding soup will be on our table for sure. I may just have to declare today a hot fudge sundae day after reading Kathie’s post.Cheers!

  6. Taste of France

I hate to waste food. So when I buy leeks, I keep the green part for soup (the white part usually gets braised in white wine). This week, I used up the greens of about 8 leeks with four carrots, a sweet potato and a can of stewed tomatoes. And herbes de provence. I didn’t blend because orange + green = unappetizing if not in chunks. Served with whole wheat bread sprinkled with comte and melted under the broiler.

  7. Love the ceramic artichoke atop the tureen lid, too. Of course, I also love artichokes, including artichoke soup.

  8. Although it’s cold where I am, it’s never too cold for ice cream 🙂 Enjoy!

  9. ready to get everything together and serve tomorrow. Thanks as always for your great recipes

  10. Serendipity!!! I live 12 miles from the nearest grocery store and happened to buy “three leeks” during my last shop:).
Question…can I drink red rather than white wine whilst whipping this together?? 😉

  11. Set a place for me s’il vous plait…

  12. Yum! I can do this, thanks!
