Pink Carnations 1900 Painting Brings Sweetness to a Very Hot Week

pink carnation, corey amaro

Yesterday was one of the hottest days in France since 1945.

But they say today might be hotter.

I do not care for the heat, I dream of air conditioning, a pool, a cook and the renovation in our house (Leaky roof caused damage) to be completed.

Summer heat zaps my energy.

How is your summer fairing?

It was 104 F in our town yesterday.

  1. Yikes, that is hot!! Only about 88F yesterday, here a bit outside of Zurich. I stay in the shade, draw the heavy blinds, and use my fans. Yes, a/c would be nice. Bright side: my laundry hanging up outside dried in a hurry!
Your heat is at a totally different level of intensity. Bless your heart!!

  2. Are there air-conditioned places where you can spend a few hours during the day (especially afternoon)? Public library, museum, movie theater…?

  3. Yikes! That’s hot! We’ve had a great summer in Indiana without too much humidity for a change. Any summer I don’t need to turn on the air conditioner often is a great summer in my book. I hate to have the house closed up. Hope your home repairs go quickly!

  4. Oh my goodness Corey that’s way to hot, I’d melt. It’s winter in NZ, 11 PM here and it’s 4 degrees Celsius; that’s 39.2 Fahrenheit so pretty cold.

  5. Too hot

  6. Rogue River, Oregon was 114 yesterday. Not nice. And the a/c stopped working! It was too hot for the a/c! Now, when we see someone we say, “Stay cool.” I miss your brocante. It was such a fun shopping trip. You must be tired of all the posting work. Stay cool.

  7. like you c the heat ZAPS all my energy and desire to get anything done-we had a few brutal days a couple of weeks ago-the humidity coupled with the temps, literally took your breath away– we do have central air which I thank GOD for in all sincerity -the luxury of it-I love the summer always have… yet have always been affected by severe heat -migraines for one – I run hot too so basically I adore summer– at the beach where there is almost always a breeze and a great big ocean to cool off in! Wishing you more inviting temps soon!

  8. Ed in Willows

I left 55F Ft. Bragg Wednesday morning to come home to that 104F heat.

  9. Wow, these temps are surprising including yours Corey.
Here in LA we are about 92-93 F every day but with 70% humidity. The humidity is very unusual for here. Should be a fraction of that.
News says ocean water temp in Santa Monica is 71, average for now is 66.

  10. Sounds like the year/summer I lived in California (3 hrs south of Willows). To even swim in a pool was too hot. I dreamed of rain 🙂 !!!

  11. Wendy in Kennewick

It is predicted to be 104 here today and filled with wildfire smoke from WA and Canada.

I dont even get dressed when it is over 90 here because the humidity makes it worse. My Scottie won’t even go outside. It’s 2:20 pm, nightie on, even though the a/c is working and doing a great job, I will still turn on the little fan next to my chair. I envy Leigh from NZ. Love the cold, but it just doesn’t happen much in Arkansas anymore. Climate change? Chap and Anna Blair have a Great Dane puppy who sits on the a/c vent when she gets hot!

Our Sept visit to Paris last year was hot. Not in a good way. The only place that had a.c. was the candy store, to protect the chocolate. La!

  14. We are having the same weather here in Portland, Or. I felt like I was going to faint this morning and had to stand in a cool shower for awhile. Yesterday we had a slight breeze, but today it is still. Thankfully it is suppose to cool about 10 degrees by tomorrow. I don’t do well here and sorry to hear you are struggling too.

  15. Vicki Perkins

I’m with Marilyn. I am also in Portland. It is currently 101 degrees. There is a haze over the city because of the fires I British Columbia so our air quality sucks, but it leads to gorgeous sunsets. I feel your pain:)

  16. Jacklynn Lantry

Wow, that is hot! It was 74 here. Can you go to someplace that has A/C? How about a dip into the koi pond? Have you ever seen those fish pedicure places? You could do a whole body sloughing like in a spa:)

  17. Jacklynn Lantry

Oh yes, it’s very important to protect chocolate:)

  18. The temp here on the coast in British Columbia was 31°C that’s about 90F. What with the smoke from the fires makes it hard to breathe. At least the humidity is low. No body I know has A/C. We normally would never need it.

  19. Crazy weather all over. Here in Dallas it’s crazy good. Supposed to be high in the 80’s today. Our rainfall totals are exceeding the average. A pleasant change. However here you never go anywhere that there isn’t AC.

We have had an extraordinarily hot summer in western Montana. We finally had a day that was under 90 – 89 – last week and are now once gain in the high 90’s and we are filled with smoke from fires all across Montana. Early rising to get some of the night air into the house with window fans….as the sun rises, curtains closed to block later heat…a rotating fan…salads…water, lots of water for me and for the garden…so far have kept the bungalow inside temps in the mid to low 80’s…lightweight clothing, lots of reading and stitching….soon, oh please soon, can we return to normal/average weather here.

Thank God for small wonders!! When it gets that hot in the mountains of Bidarray, it is also like wearing a hot, wet, wollen cloak…unbearable. The dogs and I stay inthe river. The sheep are in the high mountains 😉 We ar currently in a timny Spanish Basque seaside village with a little port that I am keeping secret, except to those nearest and dearest 😉 I do NOT want it over run by tourists…LOVE IT!!

  22. Brenda, Walker, LA

I had no idea France got that hot! You are getting a taste of what it is like here in Louisiana!
    Pretty Carnations!

  23. 104 is way too hot for anybody! Hot and humid defines summer in Virginia! As long as the heat index does not climb into the triple digits I am ok. My favorite is when it is somewhere between 80 and 90.
My absolute favorite part of summer is the evening. I love going outside in summer clothes, it is still warm but the sun is no longer beating down. It is a pleasure to be outside and if I am lucky I see some fireflies/lightn’ bugs (depends on where you are from).
I have to say though I would not live without air conditioning – that is truly for the young!
