The Look

antique engraving, living in France, antiques, Corey amaro

The look that an antique dealer gets

when she sees an antique she wants

in another antique dealer's hand:

Calm

Steady

Wishful thinking

that the other person

will put the desired antique down

so she can grab it.

Kind of like a  game of cat and mouse.

  1. This made me laugh out loud because 1) I’ve been there, and 2) I’m envisioning you with the look. 🙂
The question remains: Did they put it down and did you pick it up?

  2. And another thing…Have you ever been the one to put it down, only to have another dealer pick it up, and then you walk away thinking, “Dang.”??? 🙂

  3. IN SHORT ….YES !

  4. I know this cat mouse situation well…. not to the degree of expensive antiques but my thrift sore finds-I hate when I see people looking in my cart and try not to gaze at others carts-it brings out the worst in me-not externally internally-jealous envy anger frustration-not a good side – working on this!

  5. I used to experience the same feelings back when I sewed most of my own clothes, and I’d see someone else with a bolt of fabric in their cart — hoping against hope that either they’d put it back on the table, or else there’d be enough left for me after they’d gotten the amount they wanted cut!

  6. I have had that same feeling and not a dealer, but just a lover of fine things.

  7. Too funny!

    Yep. You captured in spades.

Once I was holding an item & discussing with my friend if I should buy it. I must have been taking too long because another person came up to us & bluntly asked if I was going to buy it- because she wanted it! Of course I bought the item! So I can understand the look & the emotion. Enjoyed so much the pictures and words from Willow. What a lovely picture of Chelsea being surrounded by her cousins in love❤️

  10. Oh yes, in so many instances…and often for me it is at the nursery in the springtime when buying a new plant or bush for my little yard, pondering the decision when along come strong hands, picking up the container I was pondering..learned that lesson and now I always put a hand on something I am thinking about.
The picture captures so very well those moments.

Ditto….that’s often the case, and probably why I too will “put a hand” on something if I’m thinking of buying it before someone else does!

Oh I know this feeling well! So hard to play it cool…while waiting…and hoping..and waiting…!

  13. 🙂 Me, too. Sigh.
