Doppelganger Pillow Talk

Pillow talk Vox Populi, Corey amaro

The pillows in Pascale's incredibly inspiring and most faded grandeur showroom spoke of a time passed by. Pascale has taken her collection of portrait oil paintings and has had them transferred to linen prints so that they could be reproduced into magnificent pillows. I videoed her showroom for my instagram stories this Saturday past.

As I admired each pillow, each portrait wove a story. Their clothing or regard spoke volumes given a window into another period of time yet with the same understanding of what we are feeling and living now. Does anything ever change? Does anything ever remain the same? Feelings tend to do both. We share similar feelings for living life and the course it takes is more or less the same generation after generation.

As I was deep between admiring the pillows and weaving stories about each one of them I gasped when I saw Sacha's doppelganger staring back at me.

That look. That dark beard. Those eyes, that nose. Wow.

I went to find French Husband, and without saying a word, grabbed his arm leading him to see the portrait pillow.

He uttered one word:

Sacha.

Here, there, past, present.

  3. Definitely.
Great pillows…I think they’d work well in a modern or traditional space.

  4. YES TOTALLY AGREE!!

I hope you bought that pillow! That is an amazing likeness.

  9. Sort of eerie. Wow!

  10. Did you buy the pillow? Inquiring minds want to know!

  11. So close, but Sacha’s eyes smile with the knowledge he is loved.

  12. The resemblance is remarkable. Genes and likeness. Amazing. Do you have the name of the individual shown on the pillow? Could this be a distant relative? Fascinating. Susan

Oui and double Oui! Oh Corey I remember going with you to visit Pascale’s studio…do you remember? It was several years ago. She was so generous and kind. She showed me how to bend wire and then gave me the bits of wire! I have the bird cage (she gave that to me as well!) in my new (tiny) apartment. The wire bits are in a collage. She is mesmerizing. Do you know what I else I remember from that day? I remember you two talking, in fluid, rapid-fire french and I remember her saying “Corey, you speak french so well!” Such a compliment coming from a native French person…and well deserved I might add. That visit was one of the highlights of my life. Truly.

  14. Oh it is totally Sacha-I hope you bought the pillow.

  15. Definitely a doppelganger of your Sacha!

  16. Unbelievable!!!! Gives me chills! Sure hope you bought the pillow!

  17. Wow! You must let us know if the pillow went home with you. Please?!!

That is very spooky….did you get a pillow to remind you of him, so you can squeeze it when you cannot see him in person? Merry Christmas from NZ

  19. Teddee Grace

Really amazing. I hope you bought it!

  20. Amazing!! Merry Christmas to you all!

  21. Yes, it looks a great deal like your son. Somewhere you have a photo of Sacha with full beard and his moustache waxed, I think, in very similar fashion to the man on the portrait pillow.

  22. For sure!

  23. Gretchen Waas

I hope that you bought at least two!

  24. Christmas gift for Sacha.

  25. Corey, I recently saw my son’s doppelganger on a TV show. It went by fast, it took me a few seconds to register what I had seen, grab the remote and rewind and pause. Oh my gosh. My mouth was agape for many seconds. I took a picture of the screen to send to my son and ask him why didn’t he tell me he had been to Madison, Wisconsin?? We live in Texas. It was uncanny, the resemblance. That portrait on the pillow is a “dead” ringer for Sacha. Exact resemblance. Uncanny.

  26. I like the word doppelganger.
The background story reminds of those museum photographs where photographers sit and wait in front of an old picture until the modern living doppelgänger of the person in the picture behind turns up, and then…click.
Have you ever seen those ?

  27. Love the pillows and the one that looks soooo much like your son! Hope you bought it for him as a Christmas gift 🙂
Have a wonderful Christmas! Hope to see you next year when in France and Italy with my son!
