Next Year

2018 is going to be a one big year:

– French Husband and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage.

– I will be 60 years old. I have been telling myself this for a year because it seems so untrue until I catch my reflection in the mirror.

– My Belle Famille is going on a cruise in April.

– My nieces are coming in June to celebrate my birthday.

… and there will be a wedding July 6th.

After that what will we talk about?

What does your year hold for you?

2018 will be interesting. I sold my house and business and went from over 5,000 Sq ft to 800 (in an apartment.) Health scare with my 88 yr old dad for the last 2 months, but he seems stable now. Looking at what I want to do and where I want to do it. Trying very hard to navigate and manage a life that gives me stability here and the chance to live elsewhere too. Much going on…much. 60? You’re going to be 60? I feel like you have been “easing into” yourself over the years I’ve known you. Maybe it’s a thing we women do, once the kids are gone, the husband retires, the big house is sold…we suddenly are given the gift of becoming true to ourselves. I hope that is what 2018 is for me…a time to be true to my very own self.

  2. I’m also turning 60 in 2018!
Your year ahead sounds amazing and full of joy.

  3. I missed this post somehow. How exciting that you will have been together for 30 years! Wonderful.
61 here. Keep telling yourself 60 is the new 40. That’s been my strategy. Sometimes I tell people I’m 70 and they say I look good for my age. Then I get the occasional person who doesn’t seem surprised by that information at all…

July 6, 2018 will be the 43rd anniversary of my husband’s and my wedding. We will dedicate that anniversary to Chelsea and Martin, as they and you all celebrate their wedding that day…synchronicity!

  5. I turn 60 in less than 13 days! Yikes! Where has the time gone? Looking forward to another year with my best friend (we just celebrated 35 years of marriage) and a return trip to St Zac with my girl BFF to ‘brocante’ and drink wine at sidewalk cafes. Still working in a career I love and don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon—I run rings around those young whippersnappers. My biggest challenge is to find kindred spirits close to home so that I don’t have to travel thousands of miles to enjoy time with people who “get me”. xoxo

  6. My daughter will also be getting married in 2018 (date yet to be decided).
Our former prodigal son will be graduating from University in May.
We will be celebrating 29 years of marriage.
And the rest? Only God knows:)

  7. Seems only the 60 bunch responded to your blog. For my 60th I bought myself a Yamaha Vino 125 motor scooter. For my 66th I bought a 1988 Ford Travelair and that summer headed west, four women, two Scottie dogs, an orchid, a rosemary plant and two salad spinners! We drove until we reached Vancouver Island and never drove back! I shall enjoy being 73 this year, enjoying my family who love to visit from England ,my friends, my art , my garden, walks with the dogs on the beaches and being me and doing my own thing. I head to the UK in June to share in the celebrations for dear family friends who celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary!

  8. Whippersnapper!

  9. oh how wonderful to know we will be sharing the same anniversary 🙂

I also turn 60 in 2018….such a surreal thing. We are moving into the first home I have ever bought, out of Manhattan into the Bronx (albeit a very suburban, upscale section) which will be a HUGE change for me.

So many milestones and celebrations to come….that will be wonderful and we will look forward to the snippets and photos that come after each! Happy New Year to you all from New Zealand!

  12. In 2018 I will turn 75.
My granddaughter will move away to go to college.
I’m planning to enjoy more walks, take more pictures
and spend time writing and working in the gardens.
    Life’s very good.
Looking forward to seeing your writing and photos
of your anniversary, birthday and the wedding.
And always your brocante adventures and fantastic recipes.
    Happy New Year 🎊

Wow, it is going to be quite some year, sounds fabulous already! I don’t think we have any exciting milestones anywhere forecast in 2018!! Happy New Year xx

  14. I’ll be 68 and my wonderful man will be 70 in 2018. We’re hoping to return to the south of France this spring with a side trip to London. Fingers crossed. 🙂
Chelsea’s wedding plans and wedding will make your blog that much more interesting (is that possible??). Your email is the first I read every day.
    Happy New Year!

    Tina xxx
PS: mon anniversaire est egalement en juin;-))

  17. 2018 will bring my 66 birthday and our 36th wedding anniversary and, I hope, a trip to California (to see old friends) and a trip to Alaska! Our bucket list has included visiting all 50 states and Alaska is Number 50 on the list! Yea! It will be an exciting year!

  18. Wow, so happy for you re anniversary, birthday and your daughter’s wedding! What a wonderful year ahead you have and I agree 60 is the new 40 (I’m 55).
At our company Christmas party my boss announced that we will be merging with another company and moving from suburban Chicago to the NW side of Chgo end of February. No more nice view of a park that I walk around at lunch time. I’ve been @ my job at the same location since 1989. Could be worse, but nonetheless it will be a big change since everything is not spelled out yet about the merger.
I hope everyone will take time for themselves and “be true to themselves” whether or not you have children. Me time is very important for health and avoiding too much stress.
    Peace, health and Bonne Annee!

You certainly have a full year planned! Not sure what 2018 will hold for me. I hope my elderly neighbor(whom I take care of) will still be with us, I will turn 66 in Spring and so far am told I still look much younger though there are days I feel my age 🙂 Hubby and I will celebrate 38 years together. Who knows what next year will hold, I have no plans so anything’s possible!

  20. So many beautiful celebrations in your upcoming year. My husband and I move to France on January 3. Who knows what the rest of the year will hold.

  21. Nikki Maxwell

Never underestimate the importance of a good salad spinner or 2 Barbara.
    Clearly you didn’t!

  22. Nikki Maxwell

3 return trips to France Corey. Woohooo.
Wishing you and your family a very happy New Year from Downunder. x

  23. Next year I am hoping for JOY, quiet times of Peace, and turning (yikes) 75. I will celebrate with a quiet weekend at the beach sitting by the fire, sipping something good, and reading a juicy book.

  24. A very special year for you indeed !!! xo
As a matter of fact, 2018 is a year-in-between for me. I turned 60 in 2017 and we’ll celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in 2019.
2018 should take us to Andalucia and to Scotland… (if my health allows me to! All fingers crossed!)
    Excited !
