  1. Either a la dee da candle holder or something to display rare botanicals/flowers (missing the glass holders.

  2. Candle holder that extinguishes itself on delay, so people can get to bed with the lights still on?
Either the upper part can be slid down or the lower part slid up, so that candles that are placed and lit in the bottom part will be contained inside the glass chimneys. Once the glass chimneys are tightly in place, it’s just a matter of time until they deplete the oxygen supply inside the chimneys, and thus the candle flames are automatically extinguished on a delay.

  3. Ellen Cassilly

It is a multiple large and tall candle holder. The bottom is adjustable so as the candles burn down they can be raised up and still have the flame protected by the glass cloches. This would be used in evening processions.

  4. Originally conceived by Leonardo Da Vinci, embellished by Jules Verne, and brought to fruition by Elon Musk, the idea of star travel has been around for centuries! Meet the “Boom Stellaire”! Or in English, the Stellar Boom! Although it is missing one of the Transportation Cells, or “T.C.”, the B.S. is a device used by French Nerds (and soon, the rest of the world) to teleport from one plane of existence to another, such as from Paris to a distant planet or star. Rather small looking in this image, do not be deceived by the poor photographic angle, the B.S. is practically two stories high. Special REE (Rare Earth Element) enriched metallic construction allows for an adult human to stand on one of four platforms which then elevate into position under each TC.
Specialized aerospace technology has produced thin glass enclosures, the TC, which, when lowered over the person standing on the platform, provide enough energy to transport them to a predetermined location. This specific glass has a high chemical stability and a low thermal expansion coefficient which safely and efficiently transports the science geek, gaming nerd, or sci-fi cosplayer to anywhere within the galaxy. If you love BS, have we got a ticket for you!
    Beam me up Elon!

  5. Well I don’t think I can top pc Brown, but I was guessing a lantern or a medical instrument holder.

  6. I’m guessing it’s a gas lamp with adustable sliding sconces.

  7. Jacklynn Lantry

Beats me but I’d like to see what Franca Bollo has to say:)

  8. Lol, me too!

  9. I think most commenters have it right already with the candles…so I’ll go with a turn of the century bong.

  10. Seems rather fitting a gas chandeler possibly for surgery.

  11. Julia – Vintage with Laces

This is a lightning bug lamp. The tubes that hold the lightning bugs are missing. You fill each tube with 5-10 fireflies, depending on the light intensity you like to achieve. When it gets dark, the little bugs wake up, rise into the glass cylinders, and start to glow.

  12. Jennifer Phillipps

This looks like an elaborate milking machine for a very large cow……you just have it wrong side up at present…..before they changed them to suction cups! Cheers

  13. Taste of France

    A cupping kit. Les ventouses.
I’ve had it done, but with electronic suction, and accompanying massage. Felt great, but that might have been thanks to the massage.

I’m thinking it’s for tall taper candles but instead of functioning as just a source of light, it’s main purpose is a timer with the candle a specific type and the length of the burn say an hour or so providing the person with enough time to read or make love by romantic candlelight but then it burns out. This could be handy to keep track of if your romantic partner is able to make love for long enough and a means to keep the romance going for a particular set time, say a half hour or hour depending on candle length. 😉

  15. Wow! I haven’t seen one of these for years! This is a fine example of le
auto-extinguible quatre bougeoir- an auto-snuffing four candle holder. At ” lights out” those lovely crystal lenses descend on the beeswax candles by way of the tiny turn screw at the bottom, snuffing out the candles, capturing the smoke in the upper chamber.
My grandmother Marguerite explained this contraption to me when I was a child. But then again, she could have been pulling my leg. She was like that. 😉

  16. Jennifer McCracken

Ok, I am also going with a candle holder, but for whale oil candles. The glass chimneys at the top catch the nasty black soot from the burning candles, so it doesn’t spread throughout the room.

  17. It’s gorgeous whatever it is!!!
