Gratitude and The Answer to the French Antique Guessing Game

Muse... Corey Amaro

(A 1918 pastel that I found at the brocante in Paris last weekend.)

Thank you for your birthday wishes yesterday. How grateful I am to have your kindness and friendship shown to me.

Sixty is something to think about, or I should say I have been thinking about it a great deal.

A reality check, every day should be, but sixty really brings it to the light.

The question I seem to hear is "Live your life to the fullest", and then in the same breath "What does that really mean?" Especially since most of us cannot stop what we are doing and start living a life that we might think is fuller, more adventurous, more whatever. I guess I use to think "fuller" meant doing more and I have come to believe it doesn't mean that necessarily.

Live life to the fullest to me is to be present to the moments at hand, to be aware "with" my each of my senses.

To touch

To taste

To see

To hear

To smell

Deeply.

Not just stop and smell the roses but feel them against my skin, to see each petal, to be grateful for their gift.

To live each moment with awareness with gratitude.

Regarding the French Antique Guessing Game, the correct answer was not found!

A stumper!

The most creative guess came from:

Jennifer Phillipps,

"This looks like an elaborate milking machine for a very large cow……you just have it wrong side up at present…..before they changed them to suction cups! "

Below you will "see" the French Antique Guessing Game Answer:

That is hilarious! What an elaborate contraption for toothbrushes.

  2. Love that antique brush holder. Enjoy savoring each moment.

  3. The pastel drawing is beautiful.
Ha! I thought that the mystery object was much bigger than it is. If it were the size I thought it was, those toothbrushes would be the size of back brushes for the shower.

  4. That is actually brilliant! Just wow.

  5. Too funny, not at all what I expected! Never would have guessed in a million years! I agree with Lil, thought it was much bigger also.
Happy belated birthday Corey!! Looks like a wonderful time with a beautiful family! Just lovely!
    Best wishes!

  6. I too agree with Lil…I thought it was much bigger, unless those are horse toothbrushes, lol.
Take consolation, you’ll always be a year younger than me. And an Aquarius. As the song says: “Harmony and understanding…Sympathy and trust abounding…” I think that fits. 😉

Thanks for the special mention…..had no idea of the scale of the item, with it holding teeth cleaning devices……what an elaborate contraption indeed……love the pastel you found at the Brocante….. Cheers J

  9. So glad to see the milking machine won for the most creative. I meant to send the same guess but got caught up in scanning and emailing my contract for an apartment rental in Paris for October 2018. Once again if you are in Paris in October I hope we can meet up for coffee.

  10. I love it! Wonder if I can find one in Houston…

  11. I too, turned 60 in November and have been having a hard time with it. Its hard to say sixty when I want to say 40. Where did the time go? I am a home health nurse and most of my patients are 70’s to 90’s and a couple of 100 year olds! I’ve learned so much through them. It has helped me to slow down and appreciate what I have and as you said in your post, smell not only the rose, but the pedal, put it against your skin. Thanks for your post on gratitude, it really hit home.

Well who would’ve ever guessed?? I agree with the first comment, it’s a really elaborate contraption for a toothbrush holder, I mean…why bother with all that glassware to have to clean? Sometimes the French really amuse me!

  13. Ellen Cassilly

WOW I was completely off on the scale!!

  14. OMG! That is too perfect! Who’d have imagined it was for tootbrushes?? The chalk drawing is just stunning and makes me think of your Annie and imagine that there is watermelon dripping from beneath those hands. The emotion is palpable.
