French Husband at the Brocante

French Brocante with French Husband

The Brocante with French Husband.

He is getting into it more and more, dare I say way too much.

A looking glass, pretty cool it extended too. But it only viewed what you could see with the naked eye, in other words, it was broken. The antique dealer wanted 400 euros for it.

I guess you could say it was a bit too much.

Needless to say, we did not buy it.

Further down the aisle, I spotted him looking at old wool hats that I had never been worn.

He bought one.

I should have bought one too, but I wasn't thinking hats.

What is happening to my French Husband, the man who hates to shop?

He spent a good amount of time talking to a man who bought a large stock of old motorcycle gas tanks.

The motorcycle tanks use to belong to an artist who use to use them fish out of them. Can you see the gas hole as the eye of the fish?

Anyway, I worried we were going to have gas tanks lined up with the books or teacups in our house, or hanging in the bathroom as art.

Luckily for me, French Husband did not want to buy one, he just found the collection interesting.

He did buy a very heavy ship's wheel for Cassis. It is pretty cool and I would not have noticed it. Also, I forgot to take a photo of it. Though I will when it is in Cassis.

Then there was a pair of pink wool velvet chairs that followed us home. How they managed to fit in our car amazed me.

But the best part is French Husband thought they were lovely.

Oh man, this brocante bug has bit, my man, hard.

  1. Will you sell or keep the chairs? Oh I hope you show us how you use them, if they are keepers because they are FAB!

  2. My Portuguese-American Grandpa always wore a suit and fedora when he went out in public. He looked so stylish!

  3. Oh dear, you are in trouble now, Corey. It’s always better when the husbands have no interest in spending 😉

The wool hat makes Yann look like an explorer (apt, under the circumstances) and I think the motorcycle gas tanks are a very, very cool collection! By the way, that photo of Yann looking through the telescope should be framed and put on the wall in cassis:) Pointing toward the ocean of course.

  5. Those chairs are gorgeous! Keep them.

  6. The chairs are indeed lovely. What fun to have your French Husband along on your brocante adventures.

  7. I think it’s great your hubby likes to shop the brocante with you! Mine does too.
    Love the chairs!!

Brilliant! I find that when my husband comes with me we each notice totally different things, I guess two pairs of eyes are better than one! I would have pounced on those chairs too, they are fabulous.

  9. Love the red velvet chairs…. look fabulous in your home
Hat looks fab on Yann too!

I was thinking that your lovely husband looks like Indiana Jones, and given his penchant for adventure, that seems appropriate! I also love those red chairs…..they actually look quite comfy seat cushions too…..so look forward to hearing where they will be going. Always nice to see your treasures…..and hear the stories…..greetings from NZ!

  11. I’m glad you got the chairs!!

How lovely that your hubby is getting the brocante bug! Love the hat, I think I would’ve bought one too if it fit me.

  13. I purchased a gong made from an oxegen tank and burnished to look rusty. It looks perfect hanging in our garden ..I know that’s it’s only pretend old, but…..It’s really hard to explain to anyone else why something will attract us or not.
The chairs are gorgeous. A pity that shipping is so expensive.

I love those gas tanks! I wish I could get my husband to go to flea markets with me. I suppose one hoarder in the family is more than enough.

  15. I love those chairs. Wish you could mail them to me. As soon as I saw the picture my mind said, “oh I hope she bought those….”
That dealer asking 400 for a broken looking glass is crazy, unless it was lines with gold.

  16. OMG Love the chairs! My husband would REALLY love those tanks!

  17. How wonderful French Husband has the brocante bug. Not typical for most men but what a blessing. Here in the Midwest we have antique malls where individuals rent booths to sale their wares. And then there is the usual second hand store. I think it must have to do with the hunt and what fun it is to be in it together.

  18. Oh those chairs are delicious
