The Garden Within Us

Spirit garden

I have known him for a long time, over thirty years and yet there are moments I feel I don't know him at all.

He will say something, or does something that I have never heard or seen him do before.

As if he has turned over a stone,

I see a moist fertile ground underneath,

ripe for seeding and

one is planted with a whisper,

"I never knew that before…"

The air in the garden

Have you ever felt the air change, though there isn't a breeze, and sets sail.

 .

Rich soil tender blossoms

Relationships are like a garden. We hold seeds, waiting for the right season to plant them. Waiting can be hard if we plant them too soon they might not take root when the sun warms and the rain softens the ground, a seed drops and we gently cover it wondering if it can take the entirety of our hope and grow.

Then waiting carefully not to pull at it, or pick at the little green things that might appear, believing in it we water it, shelter it, give it room to grow without weeding it to death.

With a gentle hand

…With a gentle hand.

Tender and true through the seasons it becomes, change colors, grows anew, endures pruning and stagnation, blooms.

She sees for the first time

Then it seems they see for the first time.

Love exchange

Love exchange.

As he goes on with his day I thought to myself isn't life incredible, challenging, fearless? It is easy to become caught up in the day forgetting to see the tender new growth, the underline hope, the smell of rain, the sun warming our back, more so it is easy not to notice the person right in front of us, their inner song, the beating of their heart,

the source that passes between us,

Ah, let it grow deep within the garden of our love.

  1. Sometimes he comes with something out of left field and I have to say “Whoa” where did that come from! This is even after 50 years. Sweet thoughts, Corey!

Corey, after 22 yrs of marriage, I believe something incredible happened. The scripture passage, “Love is patient, Love is kind”…etc. really came to fruition. I find that I step back and truly love and appreciate my husband more each day. Enjoy the journey.

  3. To have that kind of love is to be truly blessed. I am still waiting for ‘him’ whoever he is to find me. As ever you paint life with the brush of love, the colours of hope on the canvas of life. God bless you Corey.

  4. How beautiful are your words always.

Your writing today is even more exquisite than its always-beautiful standard.
We can never completely know another person, even our children, when little and constantly in our care, manage to surprise us. Sometimes we even surprise ourselves.
It is what makes relationships so enriching.

Sometimes it takes a lifetime to realize something within us, or to bring something to the surface that had been dormant for years. It took my hubby decades to suddenly enjoy birds….to even notice them, or maybe it’s the little things that only get noticed as we age and realize we haven’t many years left to enjoy them.

  7. Thank you for the most beautifully written love story, and the synchronistic connections with growing things in the earth. Your beautiful love story always, always warms my heat.
