We went to finalize details with the caterer today. I asked if they had any photo examples of how we want the tables to be arranged.
Sure enough they did, of course, they did … and they had vintage plates, with gold utensils and crystal glasses with gold rims.
Chelsea and I sighed.
Rental prices were as if the plates were made of gold.
And each thing adds up:
Tables
Chairs
Place setting
Tablecloths and Napkins
Flowers, the meal, wine…
Our original plan remains with a less hefty price tag.
Can I find 200 antique place settings for under 30 Euros each? Three glasses, two plates, a dessert plate, and silverware?
I love a challenge.
Mix and match.
Why did she show us that photo of the tabletop with the vintage set?
Of course, we thought of it, but seeing it took it to a whole new level.
White plates with white napkins tied with twine and a snippet of an olive branch is what we thought all along until those darn vintage plates jumped out at us.
"If I had a ton of money," I offered.
Chelsea said, "We could feed plenty homeless instead of a wedding party."
The conscious choice to have a wedding while others struggle to survive.
Vintage plates aren't needed but we could admire them.
…
On each table, there will be a potted small olive tree, and then small potted seedling flowers. That way the flowers can be given to the guests to take home and enjoy.
