Something Old

Something old

Chelsea asked me, "What is that something-borrowed-blue thing that you do in America?"

Because that is not a French custom.

Something old: I wore my Grandmother's wedding dress,

Something new: My shoes, symbolic of the journey ahead,

Something borrowed: My Grandmother's  gold bracelet that every woman on my Dad's side of the family wore when they were married, and Chelsea will wear it too,

Something blue: One of the first gifts that Yann ever bought me was a pair of dark blue glass earrings I wore them, though I thought my blue was what I felt saying goodbye to my family,

I put a French Franc in my shoe.

  1. You and Chelsea have thought of everything. This is going to be so special and memory making for the bride and groom and the family.

I wonder where this custom came from?
I love that you put a franc in your shoe!

There will be no shortage of old items to choose from in your home!
It is very impressive how Chelsea is considering the details in such a thoughtful, non-consumer-oriented way.

I am sure she will come up with some wonderful ideas for something old, new and borrowed. It is such a lovely tradition, I didn’t know it was followed in America as well. It dates from the late 1800’s in Britain and is thought to have originated in the Midlands. My grandmother, my mother and I all wore the same pearl earrings that were my great grandmothers. Although for me they were adapted for pierced ears for my mother and I. Now I have them in safe keeping for our daughters!

Ditto that remark about no lack of old things in your home:) You have certainly all put a tremendous amount of thought and planning into this special day.
