Pet Peeves

Pasta pet peeves corey amaro living in France

Pet Peeve… Soggy pasta, or the utter opposite of Al Dente.

Few things get my goat so to say, and when it comes to getting my goat "pet peeves" soggy pasta is one of them, so is cracking knuckles, God I cannot stand that.

If you want to torture me just serve soggy pasta, crack your knuckles, play heavy metal music, bite your nails, eat something anything in front of me when I am not eating anything (Misophonia) and the utter torture ban me from the brocante.

I would confess to anything after that in record speed.

What are some of your Pet Peeves?

  1. all the aforementioned peeves plus loud talkers um um um um you know …no I do not know dragging your feet the UGG slug (the sounds the boots make in my opinion) well that is enough!(for now)

I had to google misophonia. I’ve honestly never heard of it. No one should ever keep you from the brocante…I’m not sure they could. 😉

    How’s your back?

  4. Poor table manners and speaking loudly!
    Your back?

My biggest pet peeve is background music in restaurants. It is NOT necessary. I guess the assumption is that everyone likes the same music. Wrong. It also makes it difficult to hear people speaking.
I am a retired musician, and I also have a “condition” that makes it difficult for me to focus on a person speaking when there is background music. My brain goes back and forth from the music to the person. Many people don’t even hear background music. Unfortunately I do.
I also hate the cracking knuckles!
This is a good article about it: http://www.misophonia.com/symptoms-triggers/

I forgot to add – people who chew gum loudly and making that “popping” sound with it. Arrrggghhh!

Gosh lot of peeves I can agree with, but a more modern one is people talking loudly on their cellphone with other person on speaker so you can hear both, as they are walking around in a store or anywhere really, it is very rude and totally antisocial, as are people who go with someone to a restaurant or cafe and all they do is look at their phones and doodle with them when they are meant to be having a meal with someone….that is a very bad aspect of our modern communication devices! Enough said…. PS: hope your back is on the improve too!

  8. It drives me insane when I’m in a meeting or training and people at the table or in the room are having lengthy sidebar conversations. So rude and it’s like mosquitos buzzing in my ear. I also despise the fact that most employees who work a register and handle money in the U.S. do not say “please” and “thank you.” It was something that was drilled into me when I worked at a supermarket in high school. Finally, it bugs me when I have completed a transaction at a store and the cashier is ringing up the next customer before I’ve been able to put my change or debit card back in my wallet and gather my things. This never happens when I visit France. Impeccable manners.

  9. My pet peeve this winter that will not let the beauty of spring arrive.
I need the beauty of spring now more than ever.
    Smiles.
Send some sunshine and flowers and warmth air mail.
    Giggles
    Love Jeanne

  10. Talking over the dialog in a movie or television show. Not closing the toilet seat when done. These are a few of my un-favorite things.

  11. Kathie B

In later decades of his life, my father had some dental problems, so wanted his pasta and vegetables cooked until soft (not my favorite style). If only he were still alive and well, I’d be willing to eat mushy food if I could just be sharing it with him.

Our daffodils and narcissi (?) are finally in full bloom, but it sure is weird to this native Californian to see snow falling on them, like yesterday (and forecast again for tomorrow). It’s simply unnatural!

  13. Smiling! I can say cracking knuckles could be on my list too. Toilet seat left up is another one. My husband and I choose to disagree on washing dishes too. Let’s leave it at that.

    People that talk too loud
    Gum cracking
    My frizzy hair
People who order the most expensive
things possible in a restaurant and then want to split the tab
    Rap music
    Hypochondriacs
    Ooh this is fun!

Inconsiderate public transit behavior such as refusing to remove ones overstuffed backpack on a crowded bus or train, dogs in shopping carts.

  16. Leslie in Oregon

“Background” (not live) music at a restaurant that is so loud that conversation between diners is not possible (and restaurant managers who, when asking politely to turn down that music, refuse).

P.S. “asking” in the above comment should be “asked.
