Five sack lunches on the kitchen counter,
The song of the roller pin and the aroma of hot chocolate in the morning,
Constant flowers from the garden adorning the kitchen table,
Freshly baked cookies ready the moment we were home from school,
Clean clothes ironed and folded in the dresser,
Haircuts, shoes polished, fingernails trimmed, lessons taught on how to behave, and how to play cards.
Singing songs in the back of the pickup truck, bicycle rides, blackberry picking, and
dancing in the kitchen to the hits of 1950s,
Campfires, Valentine's in the cookbook, birthday cakes, and a gaggle of cousins welcomed anytime.
Faith shared by action and a constant awareness that something deeper was in charge,
A generous open heart that allowed others to lean on without cost.
Thank you Mom for being someone I love, admire, need, and constantly learn from. Most of all thank you for the gift of life.
