Kissing Frogs

This morning I went to have my hair done when I arrived every chair was occupied. My friend and hairdresser said she was running an hour or so behind. A long wait and pouring rain was just the excuse I needed to live stream the Royal Wedding.

At one point there were several women in various stages of having their hair done standing around watching my live stream, we giggled, gave comments, shared stories about our weddings and chatted sweet nothings. I loved how everyone gathered around one cell phone screen instead of watching it on their own. Community. Small town. Memory making.

Chelsea and Martin were to arrive this morning, we had a day of wedding planning to do. But the train was on strike, so they took a later train and it stopped on the tracks as there was an unattended package at the next stop so for safety sake the trains stopped. Needless to say, my day was about waiting and weddings.

I remembered a post I wrote in 2010 and came home to look it up as I thought it was fitting for today:

My nieces Maci and Molly:

Kissing frogs

My nieces told me they had been kissing frogs.

Strangely I did not catch what they meant by that.

Instead, I made a face, responded teasingly how gross, exaggerated moaning loudly and asked,

"Have you grown a wart on your lips?"

Prince charming

They looked at me with that look that made me feel that I was a grown-up far, far removed from their magical world.

At the same time, they seemed disappointed in me. Though asked me to take a photo while they kissed the frog…

again I moaned but obeyed their command. The moment their lips touched the frog I knew what this was all about.

Frogprince

"Prince Charming," I said to myself.

How silly of me not to remember as I glanced over at my own frog and smiled.

Ah, yes, I have a lovely stuffed frog given to me by my Prince Charming to remind me that I do not have to kiss any more frogs!

How sweet! I love that your nieces still embrace enchantment.
