Old Fashion Sweetness

old fashion sweetness

Old fashion sweetness. When my mother arrived in France I told her that I had given Martin's mother an antique handkerchief to carry to the wedding and that I wished I had found one for Chelsea so she could carry it in her wedding bouquet. My mother sighed,"Oh I wish I had known because a friend of ours gave me a bunch of handkerchiefs that belonged to her family and I would have brought them."

I quickly called my brother, Zane as he was preparing to leave Willows for the airport to come to France to see if he could collect the handkerchiefs for me.

Zane made my wish come true.

Handkerchiefs arrived yesterday and I have been giving them to friends to carry this Friday to the wedding.

Wow! What great pre wedding favors. Way better than candied almonds wrapped in netting! Love Love Love all around

  3. Your post made me smile. My mother was given a handkerchief by a family friend who carried it at her wedding in the early 1900’s. I carried it with my boquet and so did both of my daughters. It is now waiting for my grandchildren.
You now have a family heirloom to pass on.
Best wishes to your entire family as you celebrate together.

WOW that is some special delivery! The excitement must be getting feverish! Enjoy every minute of pre wedding festivities. I love traditions, sadly many of them are missing now.

What a lovely wedding keepsake for them all; the choice for Chelsea is perfect. Have a wonderful wedding day, will be watching with love from Christchurch, New Zealand XX

  8. Yes! What a wonderful, personal memento.
Why is it not surprising that if a person has a surfeit of antique handkerchiefs, they think to give them to your mother? Hmmmm. Such a family. When will Chelsea or Sacha open an antiques business? Clearly it’s in the bloodline.

Reading your blog each day as the pace quickens and the day looms on the horizon I am breathless for each new message and where preparations are at…hopefully the cold has not happened for Chelsea, at least she has the lovely hankie for emergencies and as a keepsake…..warmest of wishes to you all for the impending nuptials….may the day be glorious, may you all eat well and celebrate….greetings from across the sea in New Zealand! Such love seems to surround your family, most especially at this moment. My thoughts and good wishes for a wonderful day are with you as your celebrate Chelsea and Martin. I wish I had had a mother like yours. She seems so wonderful.

We have a family tradition with the handkerchief carried by the bride. After the wedding, we save it to make a cap for the first child to wear home from the hospital by folding it into a square and sewing ribbons to the corners. Enjoy being Mom for the next few days as you delight in your daughter’s special day.

I’m so excited for you Corey! I haven’t a daughter so it’s wonderful to be able to hear all the details that your family is going through What lovely memories everyone will have. And her hankie is outstanding. I to will at your daughters wedding from Minnesota. Enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!

  19. A friend gave me an antique handkerchief trimmed in blue hand-crocheted lace that I carried on my wedding day, my daughter carried on hers, and that my granddaughters will, hopefully, one day carry on theirs. I love the choice for Chelsea. xoxo
