An Evening with Nelly

Dinner at the chateau

My friend Nelly care takes a chateau near where we live, it is old, in ruin, ultra-romantic and a perfect place to share a meal outside. Nelly recently lost her partner Alain, a kind gentle soul who is deeply missed, he was the main caretaker of the property… The chateau has his memory embedded within every inch. Lou his dog is feeling better after being very disconnected and sad. Grief takes time to go through.

Dinner at the chateau

Years ago when Yann first visited Alain at the chateau he came home and said, "Do not go, you will fall in love with it. It is in ruin, not practical, romantic, painted ceilings, massive and you will want to keep it if you see it."

He was right.

But it is too big of a project to restore, and so it remains it a slow state of decay.

Looks like heaven. Hope to see more pictures of the chateau.

  4. My goodness, you people eat well! -Kate

  5. Soon

  6. Such a lovely setting! I’ve been enjoying reading your blogspot for almost a year now. I love how it meanders and reveals, dips and rises, just like that dirt road you show leading up to the chateaux.

  7. Of course, I would love to see those painted ceilings.
Your meal spread looks delicious! Patricia Wells has an excellent recipe for cooked peppers with cumin in her book “Vegetable Harvest.” I make a ton and freeze the leftovers for enjoying out of season.

  8. Lovely, will come asap! Hehe.

Ha ha, Yann knows you soooo well. I love the type of meals you have, so interesting, much better than 3 veggies & meat!!!!although Australians now are getting the European style with so many people from Europe migrating here. When I was growing up it was meat with veggies boiled to an inch of their lives. 😄😄😄

  10. Tomorrow!

  11. Love Lou the dog. Was he sitting under the table while you dined? If so, you are getting over your fear my friend. Lovely place.

  12. If it’s alright with Nelly, I/we would love! to see more chateau photos.

  13. I love the aesthetic of the chateau. Time makes for beautiful old structures. Corey, I bet you could move right in and never look back. It is truly a one of a kind. Even better, it exudes romance. My kind of place. My thoughts are with Nelly and dogie Lou as they settle into their life. My sympathy to both on their loss.

  14. I’d come tomorrow if I could

  15. Oh how I would love to see the chateau! Perhaps March?

  16. YANN was RIGHT!
CAN WE DO A SLEEP OVER TOO?
HUGS TO HER AND THE DOG AND YOU!!!
