A Change is Coming

French La Vie

After years literally of saying that I wanted to change my blog's name,

After writing and posting every day since 2005 to this blog of mine,

I am changing the name of my blog Tongue in Cheek.  Though the blog won't change, just the name.

Because I am hopeless how to come up with a name that would represent what my blog is about and dragged my feet trying to figure something out, I asked French Husband what I should do. He said right off the tip of his tongue, "Corey you share what you love, you share your life our lives, your stories about living in France… French La Vie could be the name of your blog, The French Life."

I smiled a mile long, hugged him then online to see if the name was available and it was and I bought the domain.

Soon I will change the address, though my blog will continue coming to you as it has been.

I will fill you in as I set it up.

French La Vie

Stories collected while living in France.

Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, is quoted as saying “change is the only constant in life.”
    Love the new name.

  13. Love that picture! Love the new name! Congratulations!

  14. So what’s in a name? It’s what’s inside that counts……..and I love it!

I like the idea of renaming your log “The French Life” or “La Vie Française,” but the mixed-language phrase “French La Vie” doesn’t make sense, or at least is awkward, in either language. By that I mean,, if you translate the French words in the phrase into English, using the same word order, the result is “French the Life,” and if you translate the English word in the phrase into French, using the same word order, the result is “Française La Vie”. Someone basically familiar with French and English probably would figure out the meaning of “French La Vie.” But that phrase would always grate on the conversant-in-French/fluent-in-English ear of one person (me), and I doubt that I would be unique in that respect. For what it’s worth, Leslie😉💜

  16. The new name is perfect in every way…..you know what they say, “A change is as good as a holiday”. Corey that 60th portrait of you is stunning; I hope you’re going to enlarge it and have it framed because it really does convey your spirit so well. How did the portrait come about, was it a photo shoot or a moment while out socialising? XX

  17. I hear what you are saying. Though I love that Yann picked this name for my blog, and as he is French and fluent in English I am going to go with his idea. A big touch of love in the faux pas of translation (it is the story of our communication Franglaise!)

  18. Hi Leigh,
My friend Mari, from Back Home Living in Texas
invited me to speak at her shop back in 2009,
we have been friends ever since.
Mari was in France for the wedding and to fill a container of
antiques for her shop. On the last day of her trip Mari
took this photo of me, in our house next door that she was
    staying.

  19. I love the new name! It’s good to change things up every now and then. Great photo of you.

  20. Lovely. Just lovely. Both the new blog name and you.

  21. I think it is a wonderful new name and I look forward to reading everything that you so generously share!

  22. Ed in Willows

Love the new name. I also think that is one of the best pictures of you that you have ever posted. Tu as l’air fantastique.

  23. I like it.

  24. Well done! Beautiful photo of you too.

  25. Molly Murray

    So good!!! Love it!!!

  26. Not to worry, Corey. Most people who adore France and all things French, chez moi, will get it simply because they will understand the difference in word order between English and French. Sometimes I have to think twice when speaking! I love it! Love that your husband came up with it! Things that come easily are the sweetest, aren’t they? You are the bomb in that photo:)

  27. Perfect! Congratulations, I know how difficult coming up with a name can be. It suits your blog.
    Xoxo

The new name is great; but we as subscribers are not connecting to a name, we are connecting to you and all you share with us. What ever you call your blog, I will still be here!Great photo Corey! Here’s to many more!

  41. Have been away, holidaying in my old hunting grounds, Torquay, Devon UK – just realise that you changed your blog’s name. I really, really liked the Tongue in Cheek name; your new name is so similar to dozens of other French Life blogs but as all say, it’s your spirit which counts, not the name… So good luck and thanks for your postings.
I love that photo of you – it’s stylish, timeless, glorious in b&w, hope Yann gets a copy of it on his nightstand! 😉

  42. SharonCrigSt

Le nom est parfait!! Love it…so happy for you – and what a smart French husband Yann is!! I think you should keep him! 😉

I love your blog lived in Paris vicariously through you.
and I thank you for attending your daughter’s wedding.
    nobody but you.
I feel like we are old friends..roses

  44. I love this so much and that photo Mari took of you is pure perfection. So pleased that your heart is at peace with the new name. The banner photo is lovely, too, although I do hope to see that photo of Yann and you again from time to time; it always made me smile to see it and I loved the gray tones with the touch of red. It’s so funny, Corey, I was so bummed when you took away the banner with the spoon and die and thought I’d never get used to the new one. Now I know that it matters not because whatever you do, I will love. The new name, grammatically correct or not, emotes the essence of what we will find when we come inside to explore— a worn and woven loveliness in all its surprises. xoxo
