The Brocante

French la Vie Corey Amaro

We got up earlier than usual today to go to a brocante that we had never been to before. The brocante surrounded an enormous pond or miniature lake which thankfully made the miserable brocante worth the drive and lost hours of sleep. Luckily there were plenty of brocantes today, we headed back to our faithful ones and forgot about the "bad" brocante in the pretty spot.

How was your Sunday?

  1. Church, visited with friends, gardening, enjoying time with cat, dog and hens. Sunny day with, finally, no residual forest fire smoke in the air! David Lebovitz often does Instagram posts sbout brocantes. Did you find any treasures at the good brocantes?

  2. church last night- much needed deep tissue massage- hour nap- shower and reading you-a good day-plus some really great book titles to investigate-the list grows!

  3. I purchased L’APPART by David Lebovitz when it first came out got around to reading it in May and I LOVED IT! Now I am hooked on his Instagram feed- his newsletter I always got because of SWEET LIFE IN PARIS-all this to say I adored his most recent finds-as he was washing them-

  4. Guessing the bad brocante didn;t have any goodies. Hope you found some at your regular places. 😉

  5. I went to a disappointing vide grenier in a small village about 20 kms away. But there was a good one in Monpazier where I found a number of interesting treasures. I think it all evens out sometimes.

  6. Brocantes are kind of like roulette, in that they’re a game of chance. Sometimes you find lots of treasures, sometimes not. I’ll return to one where I scored big in the past, only to be disappointed. And I’ll sometimes give a disappointing one a second chance and then find something wonderful. The thrill of the hunt.

  7. I got up early Sunday, worked hard most of the day on my talk for a conference next month in the Azores. The most difficult part is that Portuguese isn’t my first language, but at least there are people kind enough to fix my vocabulary and grammar mistakes for me beforehand 🙂
Farmboy Husband harvested, strained and canned 15 quarts of tomatoes yesterday. It’ll mostly wind up as pasta sauce this winter (summer sunshine in a glass jar!).

  8. Church, a good nap in the bungalow, and lots and lots of planning for our trip to Italy. The trip is shaping up nicely. 🙂

  9. A bad day of brocante is better than a good day of work!

  10. Been canning tomatoes this weekend while watching/listening to the service of John McCain and some documentaries on him. It felt good to hear the speeches from the heart about an amazing man who wasn’t perfect but felt the need to service this country. Maybe I was just missing the diplomacy that is lacking so much now.

  11. Some friends from France are arriving next week, a surprise visit. The big push to get the house and garden company ready. They have never been to the West Coast before.

  12. The music was lovely too.

  13. Continuing heat and humidity kept me indoors for most of the day. It’s been so hot this summer, not really like New England for sure, more like the South! I puttered around and went through some piles of old linens and books, and played with the cats who are minding the heat as much as I am.

  14. Yes. Enjoy Farmboy’s tomatoes this winter!
