A Little Bit of Everything

Wow, what great guesses you gave! You never cease to amaze me with your creative responses. I especially liked Kathy B's about it being for plunking an elephant's eyebrows. Not that anyone would do that, but to think that the guessing game item might be made for that unimaginable task me laugh out loud. Elephant's hair is very strong.

On another note, some of you have mentioned that you have not been receiving my blog, and if that is the case you won't see this note. But if for some reason you do see this note you might want to check your browser and change to Google and not Firefox. Also, you might want to check your subscription by checking up above in the far right corner where it says SUBSCRIBE.

I am with my friends Laurie and Lizzie (who I met through blogging) while Yann is in India. They stayed with me in St Zacharie and now we are in Paris. We are in the Marais in the quietest sweetest courtyard. Today I met up with Sarah who came on an antique retreat last May and will come again next year. Blogging has been a joy and has brought the world to my corner in France.

Laurie and Lizzie did some serious brocante shopping in Provence. We went out over the weekend and this is what they did… half of the boxes are shown here, yes half. They did manage to save some antiques for another day.

You might say they have the Brocante Bug WORSE than me. Or as Lizzie says, "It is my preferred drug of choice: Brocante Crack."

Yann is having an incredible time in India. He is in Rajasthan riding through in rough terrain. He is with a small group of experienced motorcyclists. I could not go as it is for solo riders. He is very happy even if the ride is grueling yet exhilarating.

Above is the latest photo he sent me.

Looks like it might be carrying Laurie and Lizzie's load of brocante treasures.

I copied a pasted Sacha's latest Instagram story here for you to see how he is…

Actually, everything is going very well except for the noise level of his neighbor's at night.

The correct answer to the French Antique Guessing Game goes to:

Patti said:
It appears to be a rudimentary skirt lifter or chatelaine belt. I wonder if a decorative piece is missing from the slider?

The lifter part clasped on the bottom part of the long skirts back in the day. The rope or ribbon went up alongside the skirt, and then the loop part was held in one's hand. If one needed to lift their skirt for stairs or a puddle or a step, they seemed pulled on the loop and lifted their skirt(s)

This is a simple version and not for a Chatelaine. Not ornamentation, just practicality.

Thank you all for playing along and especially Patti and Kathy. Please send me your addresses for a prize.

Oh what a delicious blog post today! Love hearing about Sacha, Yann, the answer to the guessing game and news about your wonderful brocante travel business. Keep the photo’s coming, it’s all so interesting. I love that you are getting return customers! I hope to return one day as well. Oh, and leave some brocante crack for the rest of us 😉

  2. Goodness! Dealing with ones apparel back in time was grueling!! Thanks for the ride Corey!

  3. They bought a lot of brocante! I’m guessing you’ll hit up Vanves. Will you go to the Marché aux Puces? I feel bad for Sacha – not fun to have loud neighbors.

  4. Poor Sacha! I once had upstairs neighbors who had Very loud arguments very early in the morning, not fun.

So Happy I am now able to make comments! Nothing was showing up for the longest time! It was fun to hear about the skirt lifter. Never knew that something like that existed! Have fun In Paris. The loved Marais when I visited last summer. Have a wonderful time!

  6. Didn’t get your posts for a few days but it came today! I did not change anything. Thought you might want to know. I have been enjoying your posts of Yann’s adventure! Enjoy all of your posts. Have fun with your friends!!

  7. It’s India. They are probably running a call center for a U.S. company up there and have to go all night long because in the U.S. it is daytime.
