Thank you for your messages of concern, prayers sent and love shared. My family is safe but many others are not. Friends we fear have lost their homes, and or businesses the fire is devastating as you probably have heard on the news. The photos are apocalyptic, I cannot imagine the fear many experienced and what they must face with courage and endurance.

  1. The fires are so sad. I did hear my cousin had to evacuate and probably lost her home, plus her son is in hospice for brain cancer. Her sister lost her home in the Santa Rosa fires not that long ago. So very sad. I also have a tea farmer friend in Paradise that I do know lost his home and farm in the fire. Wishing I had tons of money to help people that have lost so much.

  2. I had not read about the fires before I saw Corey’s post yesterday but took the time to look today. Such devastation.
Praying for your cousin and others who have sustained such great loss.

  3. Glad to know your family is alright. Sad for those who have lost so much and for wildlife in harms way. The fires in Southern California have been extensive as well, you can smell the smoke in the air.

  4. Thank you for this update. Prayers continue for the area, especially those who have lost so much … And those still in harms way. It’s heart-breaking to think of the loss.
Yesterday was sprinkled liberally with prayers for you, Corey, as well. It’s painful to be far away when such crushing things are happening in our home place, to our loved ones. Hugs xx

  5. I am happy to hear your family is fine. I am praying for everyone.
God bless our world and all the people in it.
Love hugs and prayers dear Corey

  6. So glad to hear that your family is safe but will continue to pray for California. It has been a bad week for your state excepting the elections. Find comfort in the beauty you always find in the simple things, Corey.

  7. Corey, I received an email overnight from a friend who moved from the Paradise area to outside Sacramento a few years ago. She writes that there’s no more town of Paradise, and that homes in Magalia are also gone. Some of her newly-homeless friends will be arriving at her place later today, to stay until they figure out what to do next. I’m sure that at this point they’re just in a state of shock, and glad still to be alive.

Simply devastating, the entire town must be shell shocked. How do we donate? Is there a site for people who have lost their homes? Any info you have will be most appreciated .

  9. Living under the massive cloud of smoke in the Bay Area yesterday, today, the winds have calmed and the smoke is not as thick. Corey, and all of us who wonder about the challenges facing the residents, we can only hope they everyone finds shelter and security. I am posting a link to the Salvation Army Camp Fire relief website, as the Salvation Army is renown for massive aid efforts. (Thank you for your post offering opportunity for monetary help forms). https://deloro.salvationarmy.org/del_oro/camp-fire-response?platform=hootsuite

To volunteer, make material donations, make monetary donations, and other ways to donate to reputable organizations.
    2. I’m NOT making this up: It’s akin to the first thing he told Pittsburgh’s mayor after the Tree of Life massacre two weekends ago — that the synagogue should’ve had an armed guard inside. Nothing like a big dose of victim-blaming to comfort the grieving, huh?
“Trump on California’s wildfires: ‘Forest management is so poor’”
    https://www.sfgate.com/california-wildfires/article/Trump-on-California-s-Camp-Fire-Forest-13380388.php?t=c2d1669ea4
President Trump weighed in Saturday about the wildfire that has become the most destructive in California history, offering no words of sympathy for the nine people who died or the thousands who lost their homes but blaming the state’s “poor” forest management for such disasters.
Trump threatened to cut off unspecified federal aid to the state if changes aren’t made. [my emphasis]
“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor,” the president tweeted from Paris, where he traveled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. “Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”…

Talk about a case of “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche.”

  11. My cousins house survived, but everyone around her lost their homes. I have two other friends there that did lose their homes.

  12. He is a despicable man and his time should be up. I am praying he is soon impeached.

  13. Marilyn, I am so sorry. How can we help? xxxx

  14. And now he was a no-show for today’s commemorative observances of the end of World War I in France, too. I hope that the French people and the other participating nations know that he doesn’t represent all Americans.

I’ve never met your family in person, but I’ve “met” them via your blog and feel like they are friends. I’m sure fear and worry are your constant companions. I am thinking of you all and will donate to the campfire fund. I wish I could be there to give you a hug, to hold your hand, just to sit beside you in support.

  16. I think the best thing is the donations list you posted. Thanks!
