  1. A great man and a good leader from my church once gave a talk on remembering to remember, “O Remember, Remember” – the point being that when his children were very young he decided to write a few sentences each night about the day, particularly to remember, in the quiet stillness of the evening, how the Hand of the Lord had touched their family. (links to a very short 1 min. clip here* and the full talk here** are below, it’s worth a look if you have time.) In the long run journals full of the blessings he recognized from God.
My daughter in law was in the practise of writing a “Happiness Journal” during her HS and college days, and even beyond, wherein she too reviewed each day before retiring to bed and would choose those things that made her happy. She didn’t want to forget those moments in her day; and when she felt blue or neglected or had any sad thoughts, she could reread all the good happy things she had enjoyed, and it would lift her spirit and help her to know things would be better the next day.
I like this new idea of comparing our day to day with the things that bring us joy… could be very helpful in encouraging us to delete certain things and to build on others. Thank you for the pass along! I love it!

  2. I love this thought. When I do write I tend to write early in the morning, but I kind of like the idea of keeping a happiness journal at the end of the day. I think I will start that. Recently I resurrected the artist date for myself about once a week. It does my heart happy. This morning I took my camera to a Holiday sale at an antique mall just to take pictures. It did my heart wonders. Thank you for always inspiring us.

I’m afraid if I edited out all of the things I’m doing that don’t make me happy the only things I’d be doing are making floral arrangements and thrift shopping! Don’t we have a sense of responsibility for a reason? I just finished cleaning out the apartment of my deceased 86-year-old friend who died of cancer in September after his children refused to step up and even visit him on his death bed after four years of fighting cancer; I’m struggling to find a cat food that his 14-year-old cat, whom I’ve adopted, will eat so I can stop throwing food and money down the drain; and trying to keep her hair ball vomit from staining the carpet in my rental apartment. I did make fourteen centerpieces for our apartment building Thanksgiving dinner tonight and managed to sneak in a visit to a thrift store yesterday in between visiting the chiropractor and shopping for groceries for my contribution to the potluck tonight. I’ve now got to sit down and peel five pounds of potatoes. The sense of responsibility is always there. Happiness not necessarily.

This was my reaction too, Teddee. Your 86-year-old friend (and his cat) were/are so lucky to have you.

Sounds like your plate is full to overflowing. I use “IAMS Indoor weight and hairball care” for my cat. He is an outdoor cat and he isn’t overweight, but he has hairballs. This food has almost wiped the coughing and hacking out entirely. Good luck!
