Settling In

Back Home Settling in French la VIe

Provence welcomed us with a blue sky, where the sun warmed our backs.

We unpacked, went through our mail, I made soup while Yann went to the boulangerie he brought home two freshly out of the oven baguettes. The butter melted, dripping on to the table.

Years of going back and forth have made it easier for me to know how to deal with the blues of saying goodbye, for me, it is keeping busy not the kind of busy that closes its eyes and turns its head, but the type of busy that lets one settle in gently with familiarity and gives room for the heart to be. Going back home to my family in Willows is like pulling back a curtain to a stage, a scene, a life I know so well and am immensely connected then after a time there whether I have been there for a few days or several weeks it is the same reality, I must say goodbye I must let the curtain fall and come back to this side. After all these years it is not easier, except I know what to expect, how to cope. How to let it be part of me.

Today is the feast day of Saint Nicolas it is the traditional day to plant wheat, unfortunately, our wheat planting will happen this weekend.

  1. Willows is your deep strong roots and France is your well attended garden. France is Home and it’s okay and was always meant to be.

  2. frenchlavie.

  3. Welcome home! Does your village have a new boulangerie, or did one of the previous ones reopen? Or did Yann need to go to a neighboring town?

  4. You are Blessed…plain and simple – in both your lives, childhood & adulthood.
For many people going back to something they thought they knew only to find out as an adult it was completely different from what they thought it was.
