  1. I’m finishing things today: the laundry (short-lived), a jigsaw puzzle loaned to me by a coworker, a book loaned to me by a friend (The Only Woman in the Room…so interesting), shoveling snow so I can replenish water in the heated bird bath ( also, unfortunately, short-lived).

  2. Plodding away at revising a book chapter I cursorily translated the first time through (impressions by a Portuguese writer on her first visit to the US in 1950). Watching TV tonight, including part of the Oscars.

  3. Stubblejumpers Cafe

Trying to work/ laptop crashed / work stalled while husband concocting beef stew / invites friends for supper in or out / fixes computer but no time to work, getting ready for company / they’d rather eat in / beef stew and toast for supper / lovely evening. Seriously cold out. F-F-F-Freeeeeeezzzz–Seriously COLD. -Kate

  5. I just arrived on my little Caribbean island, for a much needed re-boot.
It’s my 4-B vacation. Beach, botany, books, booze. Not necessarily in that order!

  6. Taking some time off to read the backlog of blog posts….. 😉

  7. Jacklynn Lantry

I did laundry, did some writing, made cioppino, watched a British cooking show and did a bit of dreaming.

  8. I love your pictures!

  9. Took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to rake pine needles off the lawn.

  10. P.S. Roaring winds arrived late last afternoon, and nearly 24 hours later it’s still quite breezy here. Thus far our utilities have all remained on, but up the street a tree came down, taking out lines.
For anyone who imagines the translating life is glamorous (and some do!), please know that it’s sort of like doing homework 8-10 hours a day. That should cure a few dreamy-eyed folks. 😉
And for any of your followers who read Portuguese, here’s the link to a delightful brand-new crónica (short essay) about Carnaval — Mardi Gras, to Americans — by one of my favorite Azorean authors (and friend):

I was battling 45 mile an hour winds with temps hovering around zero as I went out to do errands…in and out of the freezing cold all day!

  12. I am slow to respond. Beautiful picture. Love the teapot. Today there was blue sky for awhile, so I escaped to a beautiful, hidden garden to take some pictures.
