It has been eleven days that Gabriel has not been feeling well. Today his fever broke. We have held him around the clock xxxx Hopefully, tomorrow he will be closer to his happier self.

A local story of a baby struggling with illness: An elderly man in our small town had a reputation for being cranky. Wouldn’t let anyone set up a ladder on his property in order to paint the town hall; scurried to turn off his lights when kids knocked on his door to “Trick or Treat” on Halloween. But my opinion of him changed forever when I heard about the winter day when he’d been visiting his elderly sister who was looking after her very sick baby granddaughter. The child had just been diagnosed with pneumonia. Though she had started taking antibiotics, they hadn’t yet taken effect, and no matter how exhausted, she couldn’t seem to breathe when she was lying down. Throughout that whole day, the grumpy old man held his great niece upright, leaning her against his chest as he sat in a rocking chair in the kitchen, so she could breathe and finally sleep. I’m always so happy when my (admittedly cranky) opinion of someone is changed for the better!

Glad to hear G is feeling better. The flu here seems to be peaking with many people not feeling very well.
