Some of Life’s Pleasures

Being so close to someone you hear their heartbeat.

Planting a seed and watching it bear fruit.

The subtle change of one season to the next.

Hearing silence.

Birth.

Witnessing courage.

Hearing your own inner voice soothe yourself.

Hugging.

Stories like Annie's … the watermelon juice.

Being forgiven.

Having faith without reason.

Beginner's luck.

Having taste for life where we can drink it in gulps.

Falling stars.

Memories that hold us together.

Not fearing change.

Human touch.

Longing.

Ice cold beer on a hot day.

Singing.

An unexpected love letter.

Taste.

Falling asleep on a beach with sounds rushing together calmly.

A miraculous split-second decision

Breathing.

What    are    some    of    yours?

That first crisp, chilled day telling you that fall is coming. The colors on the Maples (though we don’t have many in LA). A true, farmed tomato, sliced with and dressed with olive oil. Beaches. Discovering a brocante item in an illogical, unexpected place. Kindness from somewhere you never expected.

An understanding look between two people. The sound of water over rocks. Smooth, clean sheets. Lighting a candle on a winter dinner table. Putting on a white cotton nightgown. A sleeping baby on my shoulder.

    Birth. Life begins.
    Boys.
    Full life!
    Lovely women in my life.
    Five grandchildren!
Loss. The love of my life.
But, I carry on our love.

Cancellations, quiet skies, oversharing, fudge, changing lanes, froth, new love, marmalade, books too good to end, friends who cry, tall shoes, faded pages, songs that aren’t gone, home, free coffee, certainty, underwater handstands, pups, eyes that smile, sizzling butter, fast plans, morning words.

Ditto all of the responses. For me,the sound of rain on the roof, relishing a good book so much you don’t want to finish too quickly, the smell of new mown grass, fireflies, walking barefoot in the ealy morning dew enjoying the sunrise
